    Adjusting mid fight...

    Evening people..

Just thaught I'd ask a quick question.. please no ***** - ******* **** on this thread.

I keep hearing about fighters adjusting during fights etc and how Floyd Mayweather is great at it, what i want to know though is what is ment by this?

For example, mayweather vs mosley, after round 2 floyd didnt really get hit with another one of them big looping right hands. What is it that floyd did to avoid this? I hear people saying 'oh he adjusted' but what exactly did he do to adjust? By 'adjusting' was he closing the gap more? i.e stepping in closer to Sugar so he couldnt telegraph a big right hand over the top or did he keep is left hand higher? He must have done something minor that made such a huge difference. (PLEASE no 'sugar got old overnight shi1t)

JMM vs Pac 1, after the 1st few rounds Juan seem to not get hit by SO many of them straight lefts pac was throwing.. did he change the distance between his and pacs feet or did he simply work out a way to weave when needed?

Pac vs Clottey, clottey was using the ear muff type style that he is known for, pac couldnt connect very well at the start but down the stretch was able to land just abit more.. how did pac adjust in able to counter clotteys arkward style?

Give me your thaughts on this subject and some examples if you can of how exactly a fighter adjusted mid fight and what they were doing to adjust..

    Cheers!

*BTW I'm no Bert Sugar or boxing guru, just another fan like you*

Ok bro here is what I saw

The strategy that Shane tried to come in with was to either get Floyd to drop his shoulder, or roll it early with feints. A stiff jab to the solar-plex does that, (hell it's only natural to drop your shoulders, and you can try it on a friend if you want proof) and it opened Floyd up to a overhand right (Mosley landed two but I saw Floyd open for 4-5 more).

With that said, and not to hate, but Floyd made a poor adjustment but Shane wasn't smart enough to take advantage of it. The adjustment that Floyd made was as soon as Shane fired, he dipped down and popped his right elbow up to block and right hook once he was raising up. If Shane was smarter, he could have timed Floyd with an uppercut or a left hook when Floyd was doing that.

The proper adjustment and a move Floyd later did after seeing Shane do it to his jab to the solar plex, was to drop your elbows slightly and pick it off that way. Stopping a punch this way allows you to quickly raise your gloves up to block a follow up punch vs raising up leaving your self severely open like Floyd was.

While I give Floyd props for his later adjustment, I think it had more to due to Shane not making an adjustment to Floyd's adjustment (if that makes sense). Shane to me is not that cerebral and I feel he is the type of guy who tries to follow a certain plan and once that happens he falls apart. I base that solely on confidence and preparation. I know people may feel that might be a knock on brother ****m but they had to know Floyd would eventually stop that strategy (jab to solar plex then follow up with a punch) because Shane stopped it himself early on in the fight. It might actually be solely on Shane though (which is more than likely) because we weren't in his camp and we have no idea what else ****m told him to do, that Shane failed to incorporate on fight night.

If you like I can post some gifs and commentary to point out what I'm talking about.

adjusting means learning from your mistakes and learning what moves your opponent makes and getting his timing and speed down..you should take each round as a learning process and proceed in the next round with what you learned in the last round....thats why in boxing you have to have a great mind

Cheers Timmy thats the stuff im looking for!

I did hear someone say before the May vs Sugar fight about shane will not adjust once he gets tagged and I guess that was the case. In the 24/7 Shane was shown to be jabbing to the body in training so I guess Floyd knew this was coming and was able to adjust to it in the ring.

In the May vs De La Hoya fight floyds seemed to take away Oscars main punches which was the Jab and Left hook, he kept his right hand very high in that fight to enable him to parry the jab or block the left hook.. Perhaps Oscar could have double hooked the body then come upstairs.

It amazes me how they can adjust midfight knowing that someones trying to take your head off your shoulders.

          More examples please guys!

Floyd also started going to the body right after those rights to take the steam out of Mosley and his punches.

              True.

He threw a ton of uppercuts to Mosley's body and clearly staggered him with one around the 11th round.
