What exactly is the hold up? Does it really take this long to contemplate? The money is there, the fighter is waiting (Manny Pacquiao) the fans are waiting, and you know darn well Pacquiao isn't juicing. So what exactly are you waiting for Mr Mayweather?
Pacquiao has agreed to blood testing, money, venue, and opponent. Floyd has agreed to nothing that I know of. Floyd actually has an opportunity to make a ton of money, and an opportunity to shut up millions of Pacquiao fans. Floyd claims to be the pound for pound king, so now is the time to prove it.
Manny has taken on all comers, and now he waits for Floyd to figure out what he wants to do. Does Floyd want to step up to the plate and fight the world's best fighter? Or does he want to wiggle out of this fight, and be subjected to a public thrashing for years to come? That's what is going to happen if Floyd backs out of this fight. He will be reading about being coward for decades.
On the flip-side of this, if Floyd agrees to fight he has the opportunity to seal up a legacy, shut up a ton of Pacquiao fans, and deposit 40 plus million in the bank. It's a no brain decision in most people's eyes.
When I spoke with the Assistant Director of the Mississippi Athletic Commission, Patrick Turner he made a good point. Turner said, "Boxing has given so much to Floyd Mayweather, he needs to give back to boxing and make this fight happen." Most Mississippians that I have spoken to, if not all of them really want to see this fight happen.
So what's the hold up Floyd? I am sure Mr Mayweather is getting sick of people calling him "scared" and "chicken" by now. The money is there for the taking, and the opportunity to defeat the man most call pound for pound king is here.
A Mayweather victory over Pacquiao would be just what the doctor ordered for Floyd. Unfortunately, it's a lot easier said than done. With that said, if Floyd wants to be considered an all time great, he needs to beat an all time great, an all time great who is in his prime, and not a smaller or washed up all time great.
The window of opportunity for this fight to happen may not be as big as Floyd thinks. Father time creeps up on fighters at different times in their lives. Hopefully Floyd will come around and make the right choice, and sign on the dotted line.
