Does it matter when they fought the opposition? For example, floyd beat genaro henrandez, a HOF fighter, when he was 21. He beat Castillo, 2x he was 24 with no other fights at lightweight. When he beat Corrales, corrales was undefeated and the top fighter at his weight. When has Miguel beat someone like that? Floyd is 18-0 vs champions or former champions. With all due respect how can miguel come close to that?

Also, its not just about looking at 8-10 guys out of roughly 40 fights each one has had. Floyd has been defending a championship belt or trying to win a championship in every fight he has fought since 1998 except Mitchell, JMM, and Shane.

                Be fair.

The difference in competition is very very small between Floyd and Miguel.

I still give the edge for Cotto, but not by much at all.

People are generally overrating Margarito (who got exposed as a cheater and destroyed in his only 100% certain clean fight) and Clottey (who has not won 1 single big fight)

I might get flak for this, but I think the fact that Cotto went life and death with a lot of his opponents; which I believe he shouldn't have if he's really where a lot of these people want to place him, factors into this.

With that said, I think Cotto is a very good fighter with a good resume, but I believe Floyd is a great fighter whose handled his competition impressively to attain the P4P status he's had and has.
But the question is on competition, not fight performance

Floyd fought and beat hernandez in his 17th fight and angel manfredy in his 18th fight. Two HOF fighters. That has got to count for something.

In terms of quality, floyd's "low end" is corley, brussels, mitchell, while Cooto's low end is mike jennings, oktya urkal, alfonso gomez? Cmon guys!

Be objective and review their whole career. How Cotto has a better resume.

I dont understand why people give so much credit to facing an opponant even when losing, it makes no sense... cotto "has" pac and tony? he lost to both... his resume reads L next to those names... burton fought the best but tht dont mean he has a great resume cos he lost to them all.... Mayweather fought Corrales, Castillo x2, Hernendez and the common opponants... I admit Cotto has a fantastic record but you guys give way too much credit for facing a guy and losing... I mean if your gunna count those names as looking great on his record then you have to count JMM looking great on floyds... its a huge name, dont matter if he was coming up weight classes... and besides shane did about the same so maybe JMM aint so bad as we thought.... Floyd also fought a Undefeated Hatton..
