    How good is Roman Gonzalez?

How good is this kid? I don't know much about him, as I probably should but I hear that he could be the next big thing.

I dunno about the next big thing, but he's a pretty exciting fighter in a division that doesn't get a lot of pub.

Gonzalez is a pressure fighter with unusual power for a fighter his size and for the weight class he's in. He doesn't have fast hands or feet, but comes forwards and stalks. He's got good timing and some good counter punching skills. He needs them too as just about every fighter he's up against at the elite level is faster than him. Takayama fought mainly from the outside, but Gonzalez was able to time him, clipping Takayama when he was coming in or on the way out. Still, Takayama gave him trouble in spots.

The two other big guns at the weight are Sithsamerchai and Joyi, but I'd favor Gonzalez over him.

I heard a move to 108 is imminent, so it'll be interesting to how he does there. A fight with Segura would be a war.

This is his fight with Niida, who I believe was #1 at the time.

      Good enough to beat Calderon.

Calderon is a bad style match up for Gonzalez, IMO.

However, Calderon has slowed down and his legs aren't what they used to be. The only way Gonzalez wins is if Calderon doesn't have the legs to go twelve against Gonzalez's pressure.

Plus, have you seen Gonzalez fight? Maybe I'm getting mixed up here, but I believe you said you'd never seen Gonzalez fight before....

I watched those highlights of him and formed my own conclusions.

That's good, but Takayama fought a more intelligent fight and fought in a manner closer to what Calderon would fight in. Gonzalez won wide, but he still had trouble with Takayama at times.

Despite being a top ten strawweight and orthodox, Takayama is not on Calderon's level. Calderon would be a difficult opponent for Gonzalez.
