Frazier's chin was well above average.

Agree with Achilles. Who else in the history of the world would get up 6 times from atomic blasts from Foreman.

If you get hit hard and fall to pieces, ala tyson, or you go to sleep, you have a weak chin. Christ this is BOXING. You are going to get hit. If you can't take getting hit maybe you should raise pigeons or something.

I would call that a lack of heart, not chin.

I agree with this the most. to expand a bit. people use the word "chin" b/c its the most vulnerable place to get hit coupled with the fact that its the easiest spot to get KO'ed. A stiff jab to the chin can make your legs buckle, therefore people use "chin" for everything. If someone gets hit in the temple and goes out. The next week, "oh, he has a weak chin". Understandable at best....

a good shot to the temple will rock any fighter..iron chin or glass chin. i agree that ur "chin" is determined by how well your brain handles the impact of the punch. strong legs, jaw muscles, & neck muscles i think can help. i determine chin by how easily you get stunned, knocked down, or put out.

Getting knocked out has nothing to do with how strong your legs are. If your brain gets whacked around in your head your legs either give out completely or turn to jello, no amount of muscle will take that away.

I think a lot of withstanding a punch has to do with necks and individual body chemistry.

I think It's a little bit of everything..
Some Fighters have low punch resistence..
Some fighters have good punch resistence.. But as the thread starter mentions dont deal with it mentaly too well...

Mostly It has nothing to do with a fighters chin and everything to do with Guy who threw the PUNCH.. Where it lands.. If it was seen.. The directional momentum of the guy getting hit.. and The power and speed of the guy throwing it... all matter more..

i think what your talking about is heart

tyson had a great chin but no heart holyfield had a ton of heart AND a good chin

chin IMO is the effect punches have on you; how dazed you get when they connect, heart is how well you come back from tht
