    Definition of chin

When refering to a boxers chin, does the boxers emotional reaction to taking hard punches be included into the chin equation as well? An example would be Tyson, he appears to have a very good chin, but when he gets hit hard he seems to lose confidence, he becomes unsure, maybe a bit tentetive. On the other side Holyfield when he gets hit hard seems to become all the more determined, he seems to really dig down deep for that little bit extra. What are your thoughts on this matter?

A chin is a chin, once you get hit with a good punch your going down. It probably just wakes them up

A "chin" for me, is the overall ability to take punches. How easy you go down, get rocked, stunned and so on determines your chin. The mental aspect is something I keep away from, no one knows what goes through a persons mind once he is hit.

A chin, for me, is how good your brain can take a hit. Its not really the chin that gets rocked, its the brain. So, if you have a hard ass brain, then you have a good chin.

I agree, I don't think your chin should be anything to do with how well you emotionly react to getting hit with a hard punch.

as far as i know it's more that just the chin, per se.

it's about strong legs that can support one's body after absorbing a brutal punch, or a barrage of punches

oscar de la hoya has skinny legs and he takes a great shot. joe frazier had huge legs and his chin was average.

imo i think it's not just that size, but how it was conditioned
chins are where nerves are concentrated -- in the jaw
once the lower extremities of the body suffers numbness
however, proper conditioning and training enables one to control lost reflexes
ODLH's success is heavily attributed to his strict regimen of training

sometimes its not ur chin, its ur focus.

aaron pryor is the perfect example. in his first fight with arguello, in the middle rounds, there was a right cross from arguello (his best punch) that landed straight on pryor's chin and his head snapped back so far, that he was literally looking at the lights above the ring. however, pryor said he was so focused on arguello, he didnt even feel the punch. this happend in round 1, 2, 10, and a few others.

u can have a naturally weak chin, but if u have ur entire mind, body, and soul focused on one thing, u can withstand damn near anything short of an atomic bomb.
