  • JC Chavez is One of The Greatest Fighters Ever

So I have been looking into his work and researching Julio Cesar Chavez and I have to say that him at one time being 89-0 with about 75kos is really something and this feat most likely will never be repeated.

Sure he has alot of softies on his record but you show me any ATG with alot of fights and I will show you some soft opposition on their records.

JC ended his career having been a 3 division world champion with 106 wins in 114 fights with 6 defeats while only 3 of the opponents who he lost to were left unavenged and all unavenged losses were when he was past prime or at an un-natural weight for him(140+) and this is debatable but maybe all of his losses took place when he was past his prime.

I just want to give JC some appreciation here because I feel he is not really celebrated much and credited as the ATG he certainly is, mostly because the forum I feel is very biased against fighter who were not exclusively sweet science practitioners. Even so as far as ATG status is concerned skills don't fall into my equation, its all about wins and who you beat when you beat them regardless of what method you used.

He was an absolute machine, loved watching him fight and in my opinion is definitely one of the greatest fighter of all time.

3 division champ, beat solid and good fighters like Juan LaPorte, Roger Mayweather, Edwin Rosario, Hector Camacho, Meldrick Taylor(yes it is still a win), Rocky Lodrige, Jose Luis Ramirez, Greg Haugen.

He is in my top 20-25 P4P ATG in my list.

He is in my top 5 all time at 140.

IMO the greatest fighter to come out of Mexico, edging out Salvador Sanchez. Very underrated skills.

Truly an all time great fighter.

Chavez had skills. Just because a guy doesn't dance around the ring a lot and isn't super fast it doesn't mean he doesn't have skills. Cutting off the ring, applying intelligent pressure, throwing effective combinations which create and exploit openings, rolling with & slipping blows all require skills, and those were skills that Chavez had in abundance.

I don't pay that much attention to the 89-0-1 or whatever anyway. Some guys have amazing W-L records and fought mostly soft opposition. Chavez had a lot of no-names moving up and when he was keeping busy, but he also beat a who's who of names from 130-140 in the mid to late 80s, and early 90s.

His stamina was just incredible too, when you watch him after a tough fight at a good pace even in the 12th he would be able to throw such hard shots with everything on them just like early in fight.

His strength late in the fight is brilliantly illustrated in the Edwin Rosario bout. Still one of my favourite fights to watch.
