Now that we're half way through the year, I think we have a pretty good idea of what fights will and will not happen this year.
Klitschko bros vs. David Haye
- Can't see it happening, Haye isn't responding. Is he ducking or is he simply playing mind games? Let's hope it's the latter. I think he'll fight Ruslan Chagaev (who recently won a WBA title eliminator).
Amir Khan vs. Marcos Rene Maidana
- Maidana won't fight Khan until 2011. I hope they fight in late-2010 after Ramadan, but I can't see it happening, especially with Maidana's legal and managerial disputes.
Timothy Bradley vs. Devon Alexander
- Tim's temporarily moving up to 147lbs for his next fight and Devon's defending his two belts against Andriy Kotelnik in August (which I think is a BS fight - why fight Khan's leftovers? Khan made him look poor, he didn't even win a round, did he?). Anyway, I can't see Devon fighting Bradley in 2010 because of the time he'd need to recover and train for Bradley if he fights Kotelnik in August.
Amir Khan vs. Bradley or Alexander.
- I think Khan will fight again in December but not against Alexander (due to the above reasons), and I think Bradley will defend his title against somebody else. Also I think Khan will push for this "tournament" in order to avoid fighting both Bradley and Alexander, he wants to fight the winner of a fight between them in 2011.
Andre Berto vs. Luis Collazo
- The first fight was close but I gave Berto the win, however I'd like to see a rematch. But with Collazo's dispute with his manager/promoters he may not fight again this year.
Yoriorkis Gamboa vs. Chris John, Juanma Lopez, or Caballero
- Gamboa's fighting in July and I think he'd only fight once more this year. I think that fight will be against Daniel Ponce de Leon, who is ranked number 1 contender by WBA.
Can anybody else think of any other fights that might not happen?
PS: I haven't included Mayweather/Pacquaio, Martinez/Williams and Darchinyan/Donaire because I refuse to give up hope on them happening!
