Cunningham: It was a clean shot

In response to negative commentary from the Canadian media, IBF cruiserweight champion Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham has commented on the circumstances that caused his fight with Troy Ross being stopped by the ringside doctor. “The punch that caused the cut was a clean shot,” stated Cunningham, “the ref declared so in the ring and even following the fight after seeing the replay. Unfortunately, these things happen in boxing, it is part of the sport. My plan for the near future is to rest up a little and meet with my team about what is next.”

WTF! Cunningham ain't no true champ. A true champ would acknowledge they were losing. A true champ would acknowledge that it was a thumb instead of just trying to cover it up because he knows barely anyone watched the fight. The guy has the nerve to say he's a better fighter. I'm sorry but ross was going to take him out and he knows it. I would'nt doubt that he threw that thumb on purpose. Ross KD Cunningham and when he comes in for the kill Cunningham threw a perfectly targeted thumb right to the corner of the eye. I would'nt doubt that it's not something team Cunningham worked on in camp. This guy lost my respect. Be a real champ Steve and give Ross his props because if it was'nt for the foul you would have been KO'd. He tries to act like he's better then ross anyway so it does'nt matter. Ross had Steve swinging wild and looking sloppy. Then ross scored the KD so actually Ross is the better fighter/boxer.

The most interesting piece of information here is that Cunningham says the referee declared it legal even after seeing a replay. It was clearly a thumb with an open glove.

I don't know how Cunningham would know if the ref saw the replay and said his opinion which after the fight was over it didn't really matter.

It was a thumb and Ross was winning at that point.

It was a kinda dissapointing performance by Cunningham but I'm looking forward to his next fight.

That looked like a clean legal shot to me. He threw the punch and the thumb part of the glove happened to hit Ross in the eye. Why didn't Ross keep on fighting? He got hit in the eye, big ****ing deal; isn't that what happens in boxing? Several weeks back, Sergey Liakhovich sustained a bad swollen eye (and broken nose) but fought through it and scored the KO.....

It was definetely a thumb. Wheter it was deliberate or not is another story.

Why was this fight stopped? Ross' eye didn't even look that bad. Did he suffer a detached retina or something?
