GL: Can you give us your thoughts on Floyd Mayweather Jr's performance against Arturo Gatti? "Floyd did an excellent job. He went out there and did exactly what he said he would. I knew it was going to be an easy fight for him, and that's not to take nothing away from Gatti, it's that styles make fights. Gatti is a great warrior but guys like Floyd and myself are all wrong for him. Guys like myself and Floyd have the ability to beat any guy that stands in front of us.
GL: DKP issued a press release stating that you're challenging Floyd. Can you follow that up any?
Zab Judah: "It's like Pretty Boy said, it's about the paper. At the end of the day we're good friends but we got kids to feed and we ain't no fools. We're the two hottest things going in boxing right now and I want to get it on while we're in our prime, we could make it a trilogy. We could make some money and give the fans what they want to see. Not to be pushy, but me and Floyd are the two hottest fighters out there."
GL: Basically the bottom line is, as long as the money is right you'll put that friendship to the side for thirty six minutes or less?
Zab Judah: "We have no problems giving the fans what they want, they just got to pay us."
GL: Anytime two good friends start talking about fighting each other, people wonder if they'll really go all out...
ZJ: (cutting in) "Look Greg, Floyd and me are both competitors and we're both the same kind of fighters, the kind that are all about giving the fans what they want to see. There has to be a winner and a loser, but as long as the loser is going to home to count his millions, he's good. You know Floyd got a perfect record but at some point that 0 gotta go, it might as well be to his boy Super."
GL: How do you feel about De La Hoya saying he's only targeting Vargas, Trinidad and Wright for 2006? And has a fight with Mayweather become your top priority?
ZJ: "I can't blame De La Hoya. He probably would have fought Cory Spinks if Spinks would have beat me, but when he sees a style like mine on top they said forget it. I don't blame him either, because I'm young, hungry, vicious and more focused than ever before. The fight between me and Floyd is all about the money. There's no animosity between me and him, I love Floyd like a brother. The only thing is me and Floyd know that we're the only two fighters that could generate the kind of money that both of us like. We're both two flashy fighters, we both like the nice things in life and we're the two people who could make it happen. I don't hate Floyd, when we fight there won't be that much smack talk but we're going to give the fans a great show."
GL: As ****y and confident as both you and Floyd can be sometimes, I mean you can say there won't be much smack talk but earlier in our conversation you said everybody loses their 0 one day, he might as well give his up to his boy Super.
ZJ: "Well, maybe we'll talk a little. We may talk it up, but it's business. At the end of the day I ain't no punk and he ain't no punk. I'm going to say what I have to say and he's going to say what he has to say. I feel that I'm the best fighter in the world and he feels that he's the best fighter in the world, that's what makes fights great. We've known each other since the JO's."
GL: Floyd says Zab Judah is a great fighter, but he's the truth. He does consider himself the best fighter in the world.
ZJ: "Floyd needs to understand that there's a little bit of lies in some of the truth. I ain't mad at him though. The new and improved Zab Judah, I mean it's going to be a long, long time before I see an L. I'm going to retire as the undisputed welterweight champion of the world and you should already know that no Pretty *****z could do nothing with your boy Super."
GL: Is September 3 still your date and would you push that date back if you could fight Floyd on HBO PPV November 12?
ZJ: "I don't what's going on yet for September., Would I push the date back? What do you think? F**K yeah! As much I love Floyd and everything, I mean let's get it done and ring the bell."
GL: I know Floyd is a boxing genius, but you've known him for a while, since the JO's as you said. Do you see any *****s in his armor that you feel you'd be able to capitalize on?
ZJ: "Let me tell you something, boxing is about styles. You never know how good you are until you can beat your equal. Gatti is a great fighter but he's not Floyd's equal. Corrales and Castillo are both great fighters but none of them are Floyd's equal. They don't propose the hand speed, skills and reflexes that I do. Floyd is very fast and he got quick feet and quick hands, but so do I. And the one thing I know I have over him is power. I could crack. We all know what happens when your chin's lined up with one of these left hands."
GL: After you fought Spinks the first time you said you felt his size in the ring. Would Floyd feel your size if he faced you in your welterweight debut ?
ZJ: "Definitely. In his first fight, I don't give a damn how fast you are, that won't happen. He'd definitely feel my size."
