This happens to probably 50% of the boxers in the world.
GBP probably had to bribe his manager to avoid him for 3 fights.
Once their prospect got beat by maidana (and all the money that came with his future big fights), they struck a deal with universum without revealing any details to maidana himself.

      They're all scum.

Bonzo, when you've finished putting together that list for Dirk, please go one step further..... just for arguments sake, who is your favourite fighter?

Let's go through your books and see how things balance up

Props to boxingscene.com for having a reputable forum where fighters feel that they can air their issues in the hope of straightening things out.

I believe Maidana, and I am almost certain that a formal copy of his statement has been forwarded to Golden Boy, probably via registered mail.

I am no legal expert, but Maidana's public request to be presented with a copy of all legal binding contracts that pertain to him..... will possibly be all that he needs to defer any future legal problems?

          Anyone know for sure?

e.g. where I live, if you wanna open up a business in a residential area you have to publicly state your intentions. Objectors have a certain timeframe to respond. After that..... hard luck.

Anyone know where Maidana legally stands on this one?

If he signs a fight, can Golden Boy or Universum suddenly pull out a contract that he may not have been aware of?

This kid is trying to do whatever he can to get his name out there, if you were coming up fighting for pesos in a 3rd world country wouldn't you take a contract from Golden Boy, despite it being crap? I don't blame Maidana for trying to keep most of the money he deserves anyways. I mean he is easily one of the most exciting fighters right now, so it sucks that his crooked ass managers are trying to keep his money. I hate this **** about boxing!!!

Maidana seems to be quite ******!

Now if Amir Khan had won an interim belt then released a letter referring to himself as champion and claiming he'd turned down a fight against Bradley for not enough money then we would all know the kind of reaction we would get on here...

thegonzo, You miss my point. I don't think Maidana was EVER fully aware of the full details and implications of the Khan duck deal. His manager screwed him. That is why it all now makes sense.

Well if GBP are contracted to him why cant they show him the contract? I hope fighters from underprivilege backgrounds makes the proper checks before signing anything. This is going to set Maidana back for a while now unless the manager comes out and be honest with whats going on.

He doesn't come across as the brightest guy in the world. How can he have a contract with GBP and Universum if he didn't sign em? Does he just sign whatever they put in front of him like it's a delivery note? And someone needs to tell him to be the man you gotta beat the man and in the ****ed up world of the WBA, Amir Khan is the man not Ortiz so you're not the champ until you beat Khan.
