    1. Ike beat Tua

There are a couple problems with that argument:

    (a) Since when did beating Tua turn someone into the best heavyweight of all time?, and

    (b) Ike barely beat Tua: Tua came back strong after some early trouble, appeared to hurt Ike in the middle rounds and closed out strong, winning most if not all of the later rounds -- many observers, including the entire HBO cast, thought Tua won. Compare that to the completely one-sided boxing lesson that Tua received from Lewis.

    2. Ike beat Chris Byrd in impressive fashion.

So did Wlad, and Vitali probably would too, if given a second chance. Nobody is lining up to call them the best heavyweights of all time. Andrew "52 Seconds" Golota drew with Byrd, and even Fres Oquendo appeared to beat him. It's just Chris Byrd, for Christ's sake. Was it a good win for an up and coming contender like Ike? Absolutely. Does it make Ike the best heavyweight in history? *****, please.
i think it was the way he fought tua which was very impressive, he basically stood toe to toe with him which no one else has succesfully done with tua, i think it should also be reconized that tua was possibly at his prime then. the 975 punch output was also a huge factor in winning and impressing in that fight.

chris byrd was probably around hs peak also when ibeabuchi fought him, ibeabuchi showed he had more to him than what he showed in the tua fight, that being patience and fighting a good smart fight [remember tua had big problems with byrd later on] it should also be remembered that ike is the only guy to beat byrd inside the distance, all this proves that ike was very good, but just how good we'll never know.

That is why Ike is better off in jail. Who are you to say that Ike was that good? If he fought 10 times in the last 5 years against all different types of competition, there is a good chance that he would have a loss on his record, and the same people would say he was exposed.

That being said, in the two fights that I have seen against Byrd and Tua, Ike was better then than Peter is now.

Good post, but you should go back and watch the fight again. Ike did stand and trade with Tua for the first few rounds, but then got caught with a wicked hook and backed off and fought from a safer distance for most of the rest of the fight.

ike seemed to do better when he was fighting toe to toe, he did go on the outside for some of the fight also, but most of the fight was fought at close range, i seem to remember ike having a good last round when he traded toe to toe with tua for one last time.
