If Foreman had come to win then so be it. Those are the rules. The Ref is the only one that can stop the fight in NY. Foreman wanted to continue and he deserved a shot at retaining his title.

He completely ignored the fighter's safety first and foremost. If the ref can only stop the fight, he should still use the doctor's judgement to help make a decision.

it is the referee's decision to stop the fight. he didn't know where the towel came from and he could see yuri foreman still was fighting and still wanted to fight.

that's what it used to be like when a world championship belt wasn't just something passed around. you gave it away when they took it off your body or the champion had to put the challenger in their place because many challengers know that is their only shot.

what mercante jr. did was beautiful. foreman wasn't just taking terrible punches from cotto and was unable to protect himself. if he knocked cotto out due to having to stand his ground, it would have dang near been legendary. cotto fans knew that any "L", knockout or decision, would be viewed as career ending but anyone that can't respect another fighter's heart isn't what i'd call a fan of anything. just a biased observer.

Yes Foreman had the right I think to continue if he wanted, he put in the work and it was his choice in this unfortunate scenario.......Mercante just didn't want the choice taken away from him.

I thought he did a great job and stopped it at the appropriate time.

Regardless of who threw the towel (which I think it was the corner), Yuri was seriously hurt. He had major balls to fight on, but Mercante AT LEAST should have taken him to the doctor to have Foreman checked out.

There was no sign of the doctor even close to the ring. The corner going into the ring should have been an automatic DQ to boot. It was crazy the fight went on.
            I disagree with you Warp.

Foreman winning didn't happen so that shouldn't worry you. Foreman's corner may of given up but Foreman didn't and under the rules it was the ref's decision and he made up his mind quickly.

Yuri's knee was clearly hurt but he told Mercante multiple times that he wanted to continue. It was Foreman's decision.

Mercante i'm sure at one point asked for a doctor but no one showed.

The trainer being in the ring shouldn't be a automatic DQ imo especially based on the circumstances. (if thats in the rule book it should be removed).

Everyone thought the fight was over so you can't blame his corner for entering the ring.

            Mercante did a good job.

In Cotto Clottey, he didn't warn Cotto for that body slam if I remember correctly.
Nor should he have. Clottey literally jumped on Cotto and Cotto shed him.

Cotto was pushing Foreman off of him last night as well, difference was that Foreman was leaning into Miguel, not jumping on to him.

Mercante Jr is the ***ing man! He did what he had to do to not see this great fight end on a ***** ass towel. Other ***** ass refs would have ended it but Mercante seen that Yuri was still throwin hands...I would have done the same thing.
