    Best-Ever British Victories

In Boxing Monthly they've got a feature on the best-ever British Victories.

I know what you're thinking: "It's gotta be Frank Bruno vs. Floyd 'Jumbo' Cummings", right? But not so.

Polling a panel of 68 experts, including boxers, writers and promoters, they drew up a list of the greatest British Boxing Victories ever.

Whether it'll die down in time I don't know, but Ricky Hatton vs. Kostya Tzysu got 22.4% of the vote. (With rival Junior Witter traditionally scathing about Hatton)

Following it were: Lloyd Honeyghan vs. Donald Curry (19.4%), Randolph Turpin vs. Sugar Ray Robinson (19.4%), Nigel Benn vs. Gerald McClellan (16.4%), Ken Buchanan vs. Ismael Laguna (12%), John H. Stracey vs. Jose Napoles (4.4%) and others, making up 6%.

Now, I know there's a lot of fans of British Boxing on here so I thought I'd do a little poll on this. Remember, "British" isn't just English... you can have Scots, Taffs and Paddies, too. So if you were really so inclined you could legitimately have Tyson's last bout.

But... what's the best British Victory in boxing? Judging from past posts, I imagine Benn will be popular...
    14
    Ricky Hatton vs. Kostya Tszyu
    28.57%
    4
    Lloyd Honeyghan vs. Donald Curry
    14.29%
    2
Randolph Turpin vs. Sugar Ray Robinson
    21.43%
    3
    Nigel Benn vs. Gerald McClennan
    35.71%
    5
    Ken Buchanan vs. Ismael Laguna
    0.00%
    0
John H. Stracey vs. Jose Napoles
    0.00%
    0
    Other (suggest)
    0.00%
    0

    The poll is expired.

Without a shadow of doubt it has to be Randy Turpins win over Sugar Ray

I would say that the biggest upset was Lloyd Honeyghan vs. Donald Curry...

But the most exciting was Nigel Benn vs. Gerald McClennan.

I'm not sure what you mean by best?... But perhaps Lennox Lewis beating Evander Holyfield and being the 1st British Heavyweight champion to unify the titles is the one?

Donald Curry was undefeated, undisputed, unified champion and lb4lb #1 at the time of fighting Honeyghan. It was a huge upset it really was. Curry was seen as the ****.

But I have to vote for Benn over McClellan because I truly believe that McClellan would of been undefeated for the whole of the 1990's had it not been for Benn climbing back into the ring. Honeyghan was never in as much trouble as Benn was so Benn over McClellan was a greater victory coming back from the point where it looked like he had a 0.1% chance of surviving. McClellan was a legend in the making, but Benn was in such a zone that night. I just feel that it edges Honeyghan.

Turpin over Robinson wasn't as great because Robinson hadn't really trained for Turpin, and it wasn't a great fight, and anyway Robinson came back and beat Turpin's ass in the re-match. Plus we have to remember that Robinson was past his prime at Middleweight, he was in his prime at Welterweight. Whereas Curry and McClellan were entering their primes when Honeyghan and Benn caused those upsets. Even though Honeyghan was more of an upset, the Benn fight was that bit greater and will be remembered just that bit more.

Why is Hatton and that other boxer holding the US flag upside-down? Now I'm rooting for Mayweather!

I am Satan and can post whatever I feel like. The guy in that picture obviously did not know the flag was on fire.

Well, it's not going to earn you any good karma or buddies with the large British boxing community on this website. And I've heard of "flaming" but that is ridiculous!
