he green eyed monster made Floyd Mayweather Jr. do it. And I'm not talking about Sugar Shane Mosley, either.
No, Mayweather is celoso, meaning jealous, and is achingly envious of Pinoy Idol Manny Pacquiao.
That's what is behind this silly Mayweather TV interview mention of taking another long layoff from boxing.
Look, figure it out. What with Pacman and the architect of his phenomenal success, Coach Freddie Roach, yet again sweeping the top honors at the Boxing Writers Association of America Dinner Friday night in Manhattan, it was just too much to take for L'il Floyd and I'm sure for Floyd Sr. and Uncle Roger.

I feel the Mayweather clan's pain and unless you are some insensitive brute, you feel it also.
I wish I had some empathy napkins to give to the Father, Son and the Choking Host (remember how Roger allegedly tried to strangle his female boxer/tenant?).
Don't take this passing reference to another retirement seriously because those in the know are not.
It's not Mayweather's remarks swept through the ballroom at the Roosevelt Hotel like wildfire, nothing like that.
The typical reaction was more along the lines of, "Mayweather said that? Was he laughing? Did he say he was going to leave $40 million on the table?"
Superttar fighters don't take a year off at the age of 32, not when such a huge payday looms and the boxer has already been in mothballs for a 17 month period.
In real life, it doesn't happen.
What Mayweather fears most is losing his precious "0," possibly getting his brain shook by the relentless assault of slashing southpaw Pacman.
But, for 40 mill give or take a few dollars, Mayweather will eventually take his chances.
That punctured ego should be up and operating at its normal meglomaniac speed any day now.
This is Mayweather's idea of a nifty curveball.
If you're sensible like me, you won't even take the bat off your shoulder.
Money May's retirement pitch is high and outside, all the way.
Even controverisal umpire Jim Joyce, who incredibly botched a perfect game for a Detroit Tigers pitcher, could get this one right.
Hell, even Stevie Wonder could call it correctly.
