The east only thrives when they are allowed to play hard nosed basketball, any East team that tries to be anything but great defensively always falls short.

The only team from the East that won without atleast above average D was the Heat and they lucked out by playing the Mavs who play such weak defense that any team taht goes against them is automatically atleast 3 levels better.

Since basketball toughness is pretty much at an all time low the west should be good for a while.

The Heat got the calls all that whole playoffs, the whistles were real kind to them on the conference finals.

Although that was the last time Shaq was Shaq also and he was real motivated to not lose to the Pistons 3 years in a row.
