Vote for your 'Fight of the half-year' Jan-June 2005

I'll do this again at the end of the year, then we can have the "BoxingScene registered users'/posters'" selection" and see how it compares with the writers' on this site.

I am listing my Top 10 below of the first sixth months of the year.

Lest people say I'm being biased against KO victories and fights that are mismatches, I'm replacing my #7-10 with three other "most talked about" fights and an option for "other" in case you still think I've made an omission...

The three other additions will be Mayweather-Gatti, Wright-Trinidad (one-sided beatings administered by top 5 p4p'ers) and McBride-Tyson (retirement of one of the most famous pro boxers of all time)

    My list:

    1. Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo
    2. Jorge Arce vs. Hussein Hussein
    3. Jesus Chavez vs. Carlos Hernandez
    4. Oscar Larios vs. Wayne McCullough
    5. Erik Morales vs. Manny Pacquiao
    6. Ricky Hatton vs. Kostya Tszyu
    7. Calvin Brock vs. Jameel McCline
    8. Jean-Marc Mormeck vs. Wayne Braithwaite
    9. Zab Judah vs. Cory Spinks II
    10. Antonio Tarver vs. Glen Johnson II

    Corrales/Castillo without a doubt.

Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo, hands down. I don't think it will be topped.

However, the fight I may remember the most could be Gatti - Mayweather. It's interesting because when you look back on it so many of the big boxing matches that people talk about were blowouts, as opposed to close fights. In fact the majority of historic fights might be mismatches, depending on what you consider to be historic.

Another honourable mention goes to Arce - Hussein.

You might as well mail the end of the year award now as well:

        Corrales/Castillon

I don't see how anyone can have it any different.

at first i did think of voting for castillo/corrales, but then i remembered that morales/pacquiao was more consistant when it came to trading shots. castillo/corrales was a lot of in-fighting and yes, it was very entertaining. but morales/pacquiao was more throw-down-and-fight action.
ive seen both, ive cast my vote, and IMO morales vs pacquiao was only slightly more entertaining.

Of my top 4 of the half-year, #1 is close to having the rematch official, #4 already has the rematch scheduled (July 16), and #2 and #3 are rumored to have rematches on the undercard of Corrales-Castillo II.

Plus, with Barrera-Peden and Hopkins-Taylor happening and Judah, Hatton, Mayweather, Morales likely to fight again in 2005, it's not inconceivable that a fight could match up.

To tell you the truth, Corrales-Castillo is one of my favorite fights ever, so I'm guessing it will be the fight of this year. Topping it is certainly a lofty goal for these guys to try for the second half of 2005.

No to mention possibly Tarver - Johnson III, and Roy Jones - Clinton Woods.

morales vs pac man was more consisten and action packed...

although of course castillo vs corrales was a great fight also along with arce and hussein.

hatton vs tszyu was a **** fight and resembles a wrestling match...
