guys, fighters go down early in their career all the time.
Andre Ward went down a against a 6-2-1 guy when he was 21.
Pacquiao got KOed by a 11-4-4 guy when he was 18.
JMM was knocked down 22-21-2 guy when he was 23 and got a gift over a 12-1 guy when he was 22.
Mayweather was cut by his opponent and almost got a draw against a 1-1 guy when he was 21.
Hopkins lost against a pro debut guy when he was 23.
Sergio Martinez got a draw against a 3-6 guy when he was 23.
Wladimir got tkoed by a 24-11-1 guy when he was 22.

...point is, Alvarez is 19 years old. most(actually, all) of the best guys in the sport today werent facing guys the level of Jose Cotto at that age, regardless of the fact that he moved up in weight. and in fact they struggled/were rocked or KOed against weaker competition than Jose Cotto too.

as long as he takes his time with his career and continually improves as well, I have fairly high hopes for him.

Very good points. And still, Jose was wayy above his fighting weight, old, relatively inactive I think, and just an average fighter, he never was an upper echelon dude. Just a solid guy who did his thing.
