Any sport or skill is mental first and physical second. Boxing though is the best split of physical and mental ability.you can take a person with all the physical tools and match him up against a person with solid skills but a great brain..and the fighter with solid skills will win..all the talent in the world dont mean **** if you cant think on your feet..you have to see the moves your opponent makes and learn from the mistakes you make so you dont get hit with that same punch twice or miss the same punch twice..thats why i love boxing its like a chess game..one wrong move can end your night early.Comment

True but you can be the smartest person on earth but if you dont have the physical skills you aren't going anywhere. what are you doing getting into fist fights anyways larry? someone must have bad mouthed floyd lol.Comment

Notice the mental edge gave larry the win.
After a good start larry looked a bit slowed down and it looked like the ******ed kid was getting a second wind but larry ferociously connected witha straight right that shook him in his boots.
Great display of fighting being mental more so than physical.Comment

mostly mental??? no, fighting is first and foremost a physical sport. you can't win a fight with just mental strength. a physically strong but dumb fighter will always win against a smart fighter but weak physically. all things being equal physically...of course the smarter fighter wins but to say fighting is mostly mental is a dumb theory. i say 60% physical and 40% mental.Comment

It's definitely a huge part of it. You need to be smart to figure out strategy but also need to be mentally strong to keep yourself going in the fight after taking punches and especially if you are not doing as well as planned. You still need great physical skills since this is a physical sport, because if you are smart but weak and slow then your smarts will not mean anythingComment
