In order to determine who gets the bigger share of the fight purse in the proposed Mayweather-Pacquiao match, popular Fight Sports Examiner Rick Rockwell came up with some criteria in which a reasonable conclusion can be drawn.
Rick has successfully laid the basis for his conclusion by listing the qualities and achievements of both boxers but he failed to say who really is deserving of the bigger share of the fight purse.
In his article dated May 31, Rick acknowledged Floyd as the king of PPV for having generated so much number of pay-per-view subscriptions in recent boxing history. A big factor in his success, he says, is Floyd's ability to hype a fight.
Rick added: "Floyd is also considered one of the best boxers in the world. He's rated the top welterweight according to ESPN, Yahoo, and The Ring Mag. His 41-0 record has people talking about Floyd being one of the greatest of all-time. If you ask Floyd, he'll tell you he is the greatest."
On the other hand, Rick has also acknowledged Pacquiao's own achievements as a professional boxer, including his winning record in seven different weight classes, "a feat that has never been done before in boxing history," he added.
Among others, Rick mentioned Pacquiao's "Fighter of the Year" and "Fighter of the Decade" awards aside from being the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world.
After citing the achievements and qualities of the two great boxers, Rick was short of naming his choice and suggested instead that a "winner take all" would be a fair choice which he thinks won't happen.
What Rick specifically failed to mention were the more than 20 other major recognitions that the Filipino boxer received during the past 10 years, which is the reason why he is being conferred the "Fighter of the Decade" award on June 5 in New York.
In terms of popularity, Pacquiao is miles ahead. The Filipino boxer is popular the world over while Mayweather is more popular only in the USA and few other countries outside the US. Tremendous PPV subscriptions and revenues from TV rights will be generated from other counties outside of the USA with Pacquiao's all-time high popularity rating.
Pacquiao has been recognized by various award-giving bodies including the prestigious awards as "Top 100 Most Influential People" in the world, "Top 100 Celebrities" in the world, HBO and Ring Magazine "Fighter of the Decade, among others.

Considering all these achievements and his all-time high popularity rating, Pacquiao deserves to get the bigger share of the fight purse in the proposed Pacquiao-Mayweather match.
