Why can't you read? I said 'in a footrace'. It is a comparison of their athleticism. You know... the topic of the thread?

I agree. But I think the shortfall in his athleticism may contribute to him getting hit so much also. He isn't an improvisational boxer. Paulie hit him, as did Zab, and Shane, and Pac, etc.

Miguel has very good, high-level, classical boxing skills. He should be commended for that. Those boxing skills enabled him to earn the victory vs Shane.

i just dont think he has that natural gift he said when he was younger he was fat and you can kinda tell hes not fluid and looks abit awkward when he runs but no doubt he is a world class boxer

He does get hit cause of his style, he has been so left foot heavy that it keeps him in range of incomming punches. But at the same time it gives that jab and left hook good power. His jab comes out of rythm so its hard to see. It could have a lot to do with that he is left handed man that fights as a righty

Cotto use to be a more fluid fighter early on in his career. He now fights very stiff. Almost robotic like.

i think this goes with out saying. offensively he's very well schooled. i think his issue has always been is that he's been a lefty fighting orthodox. he doesn't have the dexterity of foot because he's probably left footed as well. I've seen guys like mayweather roy jones, switch to south paw, and it looks odd even in those super athletes. i think if he was "taught" as a southpaw he would be better defensively.

Floyd, Shane, Manny, Roy all play a lot of hoop. They are used to running up and down the court without thinking about it. Their footwork transcends just the sport of boxing. Sergio was a cyclist and soccer player. Chad Dawson plays a lot of hoop also.

excellent post. it's very true. cotto is slow and lazy with no stamina. he never trains aggressively or puts his all into it

I agree with u TS , not completely , but for the most part. He is not the most athletic guy. He has some attributes and traits of an athlete , I mean , Dude has grown into a full WW and has been pretty much forced to be a JR MW , He was an Olympian so u know the guy is somewhat athletic , not the best one tho. I think hes training lately has something to do with it. And of course , hes been chilling to much with Jack Daniels , lol and black label. He hasnt been as dedicated as he should have

He plays spin the bottle , witgh a full bottle of black label. While eating pinchos.LOL

Seriously , I never heard of him playing ball or anyother sport for that matter. Your right about basketball helping with ur stamina , It does and in a major way.

I remember I use to play ball everyda back in HS , and then stoped for a few years , drugs and vaginas had a lot to do with that. But when I tried playing ball again In the first pick up game I almost passed out. And after a few weeks of getting back to it , I could run full court games like nothing. So that does keep u very active , in good shape and builds up ur stamina in a major major way

I totally understand what you're saying, and I agree to a large extent.

However, something that has a lot to do with athleticism is coordination which is something Miguel has an abundance of.
