I have been one of Julio Caser Chavez Jr's largest critics so far in his career. I have said on multiple occasions that I thought he was getting too much too soon based just on his name, and to a degree I still think that to be the case. However, I must take this moment to actually shift stance and compliment him some. I am very impressed by a couple of things that Chavez Jr. is doing, first is he seemed to up his level of competition some. This is not to say he is fighting champs yet, but nor should he be at this stage. What he did finally do was fight a pretty game guy, somebody who had experience and had a winning record. And Chavez was victorious against this step-up fighter, so he passed that test with flying colors and deserves respect and cong**** for that. Another thing that we have seen out of the young Chavez is that he is staying busy, and I mean really busy. It seems like every big card this kid is fighting on, and while he may not deserve that spotlight yet (or may depending on your stance) you cannot fault him for staying this active. It is really great to see a young fighter who wants to be in the ring and honing his craft, this is how fighters get better and champions are made. So those are my words of praise for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, and I hope that he continues on this path of proving me wrong and improving as a fighter!

I really don't think he hould be getting anywhere near a title shot until about fight 40 or so. While he's getting a lot of exposure he's not far enough along to be testing the deeper waters just yet either.

I hope they don't wind up rushing him along because of said exposure.

One thing he really needs to work on IMO is his handspeed.

I think Chavez Jr. is ok, for a Jr., but I dont think he is going to become a "real deal".

He wont do jack **** until all that talent leaves the division. His excuse will be his dads big long record but theres no way he'll fight a Cotto, Hatton, Mayweather, or even Gatti. The guy that Chavez Jr will beat for a VACANT belt is probably an amateur Bantamweight at this point in time.

Vernon Forest did the same thing at Welterweight.

Who wins, and why? Anybody think this fight is going to be made?
I think Chavez Jr. is ok, for a Jr., but I dont think he is going to become a "real deal".

If that fight's made, it won't be for a long time, though people like to talk about it a lot. Of course, Machito has a lot of experience and is coming off a year-long layoff which he said helped him get back some of his desire for the sport, so I'll have to see his next fight to see how he's doing now. And on the other hand Julito is still fighting six-round fights and his handlers don't plan on moving him up to ten-round fights until 2007 (with all eight-rounders next year). Of course if they fought right now, I'm pretty sure Machito would win, but last I heard he does fight in a higher weight-division too. In the future, I'm not so sure. Julito definitely has the dedication and the discipline to improve a lot in that time. He's already come a long way in the less than two years he's been boxing professionally.

As for all the exposure, I don't see how the kid could not get exposure. He draws crowds, and I think it's great to get to see all or most of his fights. The best boxing reality show is definitely real boxing. It'll be interesting to see how he develops as a fighter through his entire career instead of just seeing him once he gets to the top. And he'll fight those top guys some day, but it won't be for a long time (and probably not under welterweight).

And for those of you looking at the schedules right now on BoxRec, no, Chavez Jr is not fighting both July 29th and July 30th. I know he keeps active, but that's just ridiculous. It's really just the San Jose fight on the 29th.

I enjoy seeing jr develop into a better fighter every fight, this last fight he did step up in competition and did a great job. For a guy who only had limited amateur fights, he is a good path right now.

Yeah he seems like he has some good skills. Id like to see what he ends up doing with his career
