    Lightweight rematch no done deal

    By Jeff Haney , lasvegassun.com

Promoter Gary Shaw disputed an online report that said a deal has been struck for Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo to stage a rematch of their memorable May 7 lightweight bout on Oct. 8 in Las Vegas.

Corrales stopped Castillo in the 10th round at Mandalay Bay after twice getting knocked down in the consensus best fight of 2005, and perhaps of the decade so far.

"There has been a discussion with Top Rank, but there are still a lot of details to be worked out," Shaw, who promotes Corrales, said. "The problems, as always, are in the details. And Bob (Arum, of Top Rank) and I haven't gotten down to any details yet. ...

"I guarantee that there have been no documents circulated anywhere, to anyone, regarding this fight."

While a rematch against Castillo would make for an attractive show, Shaw said, it's also possible that Corrales' next fight could come against Ricky Hatton, who upended Kostya Tszyu earlier this month and holds the IBF 140-pound championship.

"Frank Warren (Hatton's promoter) called me (Tuesday) and offered me a fight against Hatton," Shaw said, "and as Corrales' promoter, I have to consider that offer

You *******s need to stop it with the 'premature stoppage' bull****.

I'm a Castillo fan and I am GLAD the fight was stopped. At least this way JLC is able to fight a rematch should it occur. He was unable to defend himself, wide open, the ropes holding him up. If the fight is allowed to continue, he may not be able to feed himself right now, yet alone sign on for a rematch. So I agree with the stoppage.

But the bull**** with Chico's mouth piece alone is more than enough to warrent them going a second time. I have no doubt that without the extra time he was given, Corrales get's stopped himself.

I take nothing away from either of them. But Corrales is an ******* if he chooses to take anyother fight without the intention of setting up a rematch. If he wants to allow his body recover before hand, that is fine. But it should be his top priority IMO.

As for the result, I think Castillo will win a rematch.

I agree that Corrales will attempt to keep this fight outside after the punishment he suffered in the first fight. But keeping Castillo on the outside is far easier said than done.

You have to ask yourself, Why did Corrales go inside & trade with Castillo?
He did it, because he & Goosen KNEW, they could not keep Jose away forever & they had to do something to stop him finishing over the top of them. So it was there top priority to **** JLC's body early to take away the steam from him in the later rounds And I think that was smart.
But it was STILL not enough to keep him from coming on strong in the later rounds.

With Corrales trying to box, I believe Castillo will be able to come on even stronger & finish Corrales this time around.

ok for this fight they need to make a rule to where if the mouthpiece comes out, it stays out until end of the round.

Corrales is going to win another very close, if somewhat less brutal, fight this time around. It will again go down to the championship rounds with Diego again grinding out a very competitive stoppage, although it will not be nearly the brutal encounter the first one was. And don't worry about the mouth piece fight fans, they can change the rules all that they want-- this time it is going to be staying in Chico's mouth because this time he will be staying off the canvas.

I still see Castillo ending this fight around the 8th round
What fights you were watching, were you drunk during the fights. Mayweather beat Castillo both times & I've seen both fights. Chico will win again.

chico isn't gonna fight the same fight as before. he doesn't even want to fight this fight let alone try to **** it out like he did last time. jlc is a true warrior and will take this kind of fight everytime. that may be his biggest downfall. it may shorten his career. chico is going to try and fight from the outside but i think jlc will get in side enough to do the damage he needs to. if jlc wants to win it will have to be a ko. sure he will get on the inside at times i just don't think it will be enough to win a decision. chico will be pot shotting from the outside earning points and lets not forget that he can earn points on the inside against jlc as well.
