Ricky Hatton is universally known as a guy who comes forward all night long in an effort to establish the inside fight. Once he starts the inside work, he slows a guy down and then the inside fighting gets firmly established.

I've seen the Zoo fight, Stewart fight and that tall Canadian guy. It was the same Ricky Hatton in each fight, moving forward and throwing a hell of a lot. Some adjustments, but really just Ricky being entirely dependent on getting that inside game established. Then it's Ricky fight.

I think that Zoo and Mayweather are vastly different fighters, so your right it's not sensible to compare Hatton-Mayweather based on that perofrmance, solely. But, I don't see Hatton having success charging/marching/lunging into Mayweather like he must, in order to tire-out May and then get May to stand still and fight inside. Instead, I see May giving Hatton much too much movement, while also stacking up the points. Sure Ricky might get a round or two, but if he can't hit a guy alot, than he's not gonna' tire the guy and set up the inside game.
I agree in many ways (though I saw him do a bit of different stuff against Tackie) it's just that the majority of people saying this clearly haven't seen any of his fights. that's not the case for you, but really it's like someone seeing Tyson-Holyfield II and saying "That biting people's ears off won't work against Mayweather."

Anorak, you know you're good in my books but you're the second British guy to come on in the last couple of days lecturing us here on this of the ocean about how ignorant we are. I'm not saying you don't have good points, but don't be surprised if the reaction you get quickly turns ugly.

The top ten p4p is just my sig, incidentally, it wasn't part of the post. "Homers" though? I only had two Brits in there and Calzaghe's a Taff.

But this is my own personal opinion, I'm not saying that The Ring should take my lead or anything. Witter's been avoided for years, certainly in the UK, and he was only learning (hadn't been past eight rounds) when he fought Judah at just a few weeks' notice. I can forgive him one off night cos I've seen him about a dozen times and he's got world class talent that's perpetually underexposed. Maybe he'll get the chance to show what he's got? And if he stepped up for a Judah rematch? Sure I'd bet on him.

Calzaghe? Hell, people big up Bernard "My favourite song is "Runaway" by Del Shannon" Slopkins's defences, but Calzaghe's had 16 defences of his belt. Okay, they've been defences against a pile of crap mainly, but so are Hopkins's.

The rest of my list? They're Yankee Doodle Dandies.
I too would like to see Witter vs. Judah again...the guy has come a long way and his style is rally unlike any fighter today...his power is something that you would have to repsect if you were Judah, something he did not have to worry about the first time...still #2 is a joke and we both no that.

As for my boy Joe, man I have been defending him for ever....I really think the guy is that good, but again I cant put him up there until he actually fights some of the best in his diision. I dont know whos fault it is for some of the big matches never coming to fruition but I cant give him credit for being ducked either if that isin fact the case.

As for Hopkins, I follow what you are saying, I have been ripped aprt on this site in the past for suggesting Nard do more...his two biggest wins are against guys who were never real middleweights. He has ebcome the man off of those two wins and I would love to see NArd take a risk and move up...Calzaghe in my mind is to big, too fast for him but until that match takes place I have no choice but to give the nod to NArd-Calzaghe should be bending over backwards for any fight with a crdible opponet and although there have been a few (Mitchel,Brewer)there have not been enough.

thanks for the Karma, ya see I really do care!

Nah, don't take it the wrong way, I don't normally get steamed - and it isn't applied to everyone, just smack-talking kids who come out with ill-informed crap apropos of nothing (see the Liston thread) - but coming on here and seeing "UK" this and "Manchester" that.

You even get people saying the biggest obstacle for a Hatton-Mayweather fight is Hatton not travelling to the US. All you have to do is read his recent interviews where he's said he's perfectly willing to do that.

Couldn't give it in the end, apparently it's too soon after I last gave you some.

you make good points about Joe and Berny... I think my p4p is more of a fun "fantasy" list than anything...

ANORAK!!!!.... Your P4P list in you sig???

You've got Mayweather at No.1... And no Hatton?

Does that mean you think a Ricky "king @140lbs" Hatton, would lose to Floyd "tired Gatti" Mayweather?????

Of all the top-tier welters, only Hatton and Zoo have mixed-it-up. Until somebody else steps up and helps sort-out things, Hatton has the right to be #1.

Then ignore them, you know better. Let's get talking about some straight stuff, for instance, is MSG neutral ground?
