its not at all unreasonable to think that mayweather could/would beat robinson or has better defense than sweet pea, ill explain why

Sugar Ray Robinson was great, but if you know anything about him or the time he fought it it might say something to you

for example you probably knew about his epic fights with Jake Lamotta, what you didnt know probably is that he fought Jake lamotta many times, he even fought him within 2 weeks of fighting him, he also fought him fought another guy and fought him 2 months later, you may say this is amazing and all that, but it actually reveals alot about how boxing is different from then till now

Ray Robinson is still today considered the greatest because he was the most prolific, he fought over a hundred fights and lost very few, but the circumstance for how he fought tells us that the preparation put into the fights was not on the same level as it is today, therefore if he did fight today, you would most likely see a different fighter

As far as mayweathers defense, its not unreasonable in the very least to say that his is better than Pernells. Pernell excelled in reaction and footwork, where floyd is very good, but not as good as Pernell, where floyds defense is better is his change ups. Floyd never lets an opponent figure him out because he never settles into a grove, if you watch how he fights, he employs many different styles which makes him very hard to fight. In turn he is able to punish other fighters, making them less likely to throw, he does not just employ defense in the traditional sense, but in the very likeness of the word

Offensively nobody who has ever fought at 147 has been as good as SRR. Defensively he could hold his own, way difference styles. Whitaker was very elusive, hard to hit while he was in front of you. PBF is very hard to hit solid, he deflects so many punches, not elusive. Very rarely does someone land clean on him, Mosley certainly did. PBF also has a better offense than Whitaker. He has a cleaner counter.

That said Whitaker was the man in his day. Watching clips of him on Youtube and his D is amazing. He was impossible to hit, not just clean but at all.
