Nah, He's not a racist but he has his favorites and others that he really doesnt like. For example he loves Shane Mosley, I remember the Margarito fight he was saying stuff like "Can that man fight!!!" etc etc. Yet when Floyd Mayweather wins 11 out of 12 rounds against Mosley. Merchant refuses to give him any credit. He's like that with alot of things, Another fighter he loves is Manny Pacquiao. Like I said before, When Mayweather beat De La Hoya he was being very negative and when Pacquiao beat De La Hoya (after Mayweather beat him) then Merchant went wild. He has his own agenda when it comes to alot of things.

It's annoying but every has their own opinion and he has the right to say what he thinks. Personally I don't like him but he's part of HBO and I love HBO. It wouldnt be the same without him when you think about it...
