    Lazarte upsets Tamara

Luis Lazarte (46-9-1, 18 KOs) of Argentina upset IBF junior flyweight champion Carlos Tamara (21-4, 15 KOs) of Colombia by split decision. on Saturday night at the Club Once Unidos, Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was Lazarte’s 5th attempt to win a world title. No knockdowns were scored. The official judges scorecards were 115-113 and 116-112 for Lazarte and 115-113 for Tamara. Lazarte clearly won the fight and did not receive a home decision. He earned the victory.

Round 1 saw Tamara cut by an accidental headbutt that left a slanted cut above the left eye. Tamara was clearly affected by the headbutt and the much smaller Lazarte dominated the round with his bull rushes and overhand rights.

Round 2 was more a tactical round as Tamara’s cut was under control and he was controlling the distance and using his major height advantage of 5ft5 to the 5ft Lazarte but really wasn’t able to connect much and neither did Lazarte.

Round 3 saw Tamara again using his height and reach advantage but this time he was more effective and controlled the round for the most part with his jab. Larzarte was able to land a few overhand rights that brought roars from the crowd.

Round 4 was highlighted by Lazarte able to work over Tamara a bit to the body and head. One left hook sent Tamara temporarily stumbling into referee Michael Ortega but he seemed okay as the round came to an end.

Round 5 was a very good round for Lazarte as he was beating Tamara to the point on several occasions with overhand rights and left hooks.

Round 6 was controlled for the most part by Tamara with a good boxing display where he fought from the southpaw stand for the better part of the round.

Round 7 was a solid round for Lazarte as it the round was fought at close quarters and he was able to get alot of work done on the inside both upstairs and down.

Round 8 saw Lazarte connecting regularly with short left and rights as Tamara was hit several times as he pulled back.

Round 9 was a close round as Tamara started the round aggressive and connected well but Lazarte closed strong once again.

Round 10 was dominated by the 39 year old Lazarte who was winning the inside and outside battle. The 27 year old Tamara looked in danger of losing his title unless he scored a knockdown or knockout soon.

Round 11- Lazarte came storming out from the opening bell after Tamara and bullied him into the ropes and was working him over. Even when the fight moved to the middle of the ring Lazarte was still connecting at will.

Round 12- Knowing his title was slipping away Tamara came out more aggressive and had some good moments but Lazarate was determined and again closed strong.

Tamara had upset former world champion Brian Viloria in his last bout. Osvaldo Rivero promoted the event.

Thanks for posting I'd forgotten about this bout.

I'm a bit suprised by this one. I guess I didn't really know anything about Lazarte, sounds like he put on a sound boxing performance. Shakes up the Jr. Flyweight picture a bit.
