    Bring on Hatton-Mayweather

    HATTON-MAYWEATHER: NOW, LATER, OR NEVER?

"STAGE SET" FOR 140 POUND MEGAFIGHT!

After doing what pretty much everyone sane expected in running circles around Arturo Gatti (39-7, 30 KO's) on Saturday night, Floyd Mayweather (34-0, 23 KO's) stands atop the sport as its premiere talent. This isn't surprising; he was that before he fought Arturo Gatti (or other recent soft touch foes Phillip N'Dou, Domingo Sosa and Henry Bruseles). However, now with the marquee win his career had lacked and Gatti's WBC 140 lb. belt, Floyd may also have the public recognition to make the fights that will further define his legacy along with increasing his wealth. The first and most important fight that can be made is also the most obvious choice...Mayweather must face World junior welterweight champion Ricky Hatton (39-0, 29 KO's).

Beating a ****ing B level fighter at best does nothing for Floyd IMO.

The only people who picked Gatti to win did so either because they went with their heart and not their head, or because they hated Floyd.

I fail to see how this is a "marquee win."

Marquee in the sense that this win got a 'name' on his record...this fight got Floyd better mainstream coverage than he has ever had before

Is it likely for Hatton/Mayweather or Cotto/Mayweather or Cotto/Hatton this year?

He has better names than Gatti on his record.

              Corrales for one.

If you mean it brought Floyd to a bigger audience it may have. But Floyd isn't the sort of fighter to provoke real emotion either good or bad from the casual boxing public.

People like Gatti for the whole "blood and guts warrior" image.

              Floyd's just an *******. A talented ******* yes.

              But still an *******.

I don't know, maybe Gatti is a big name in the States but where i live, he's "Arturo who?" to anyone other than serious boxing fans.

Arturo's the only PPV fighter Floyd has ever faced, Corrales was allways fun to watch, but people only noticed him after fighting Castillo for some odd reason. Maybe cause hes Columbian...fact is, Gatti is popular, the rest werent/arent.
