What irritates me is they didn't even negotiate.

They just told HBO they didn't want the fight.

jreckoning, no offense but you getting anoying with your "they didn't want the fight".... those words come from the promoter of the guy who didn't accept the deal. of course he's gonna say that gamboa pussied out, wtf else u want him to say? "my guy caba is a ***** and he didnt want to fight"... he admits it himself that a 250k offer was made, wtf.

it's not about who brings money to the table, i hate when fights dont happen because "one good fighter has no fanbase". it's just that gamboa is the champ, he has the hbo date and he's one of the hottest names in those weightclasses... everybody talks about him as being the future (or one of) boxing. he's offering caballero (a titleless good fighter) a good payday, hbo exposure (that he absolutely needs) and a ***in title shot...... how in hell was that a low offer? if anything it was too generous IMO... remember the HBO budget was 600-750k max.. anything more than 250k for caba would be no sense.

btw, this is far from gamboa's highest payday, it's one of the lowest actually... friends of him have reported digits that are amazing for a fighter with so few fights, Arena pays him extremelly well. dude was already millionaire before having his 1st pro fight and he makes very high digits everytime he gets into the ring... also, remember the "he wanted 1M to fight Caballero" also comes straight from DiBellas mouth, this as a source has 0 value.

i do eventually but when they first anounced that they were talking to rojas and caba when everyone was talking bout caba i always said that i prefer rojas that fight does more for gamboa than caba
