Not really. Floyd is slightly better on the offense end all around. Whitaker was the superior defensive fighter and had a sweet jab.

Mayweather may be looked at as the Whitaker of this era but he won't overtake him as the greater fighter. Mayweather isn't exactly fighting guys like McGirt, Nelson, Ramirez, and Chavez.

Man sweet pea was something else he didnt train as hard as mayweather but his defense was the greatest! Floyd is better all around since he throws plenty of combos and has more kos. But pernell if he didnt do coke and party as much he would have been a more complete fighter rather then a defense specialist.

De La Hoya too (Trinidad but when "old", so they say ), but Floyd has faced Castillo x2, Gatti, DeMarcus Corley, Jesus Chavez, Carlos Alberto Hernandez, Corrales and he still has Hatton, Cotto to go. In a way its better, or tied. He still has time to move up in weight too, even with a loss.

Whitaker was a over rated and Mayweather is living up to the hype and he is just barely getting started.
Mayweather if he beats Hatton can be considered superstar.

Greatest defensive fighter ever outside of Pep (but for me he's the greatest because I've only seen limited footage of Pep)

Wins over McGirt x2, Paez, Nelson, Ramirez, Vazquez, Haugen, Rivera x2, and CHAVEZ (thats right bitches this was the most blatant robbery of the 90's).

He beat 4 unbeaten opponents and it would have been 5 if not for the Chavez fiasco. He beat Chavez 9-3 at the worst in my eyes.

The only two real blemishes on his records were robberies. He was past his best when he fought DLH and Trinidad, and even so he came close to beating Oscar in that fight.

I think size and age was a big problem in the Whitaker/Trinidad match up.

Anyway, Pernell Whitaker was the greatest defensive fighter of all time. I don't think there will be another, though I've seen some bitches in the hood with some serious head movement.
