Now Mepranum is fighting Miranda? What happened to the WBO's #1 Jimenez? Or all the guys ranked #1-6, for that matter?.
So you have the #7 Miranda, who has lost two consecutive title shots, going against the #9 Mepranum, who has won exactly one fight of note.
What a truly awful organization the WBO is. -
Not sure what happened there but for all we know the 1-6 guys had other obligations and couldn't make the fight. I've seen similar things where Carlos Tamara became the IBF mandatory at number 7 when number 2 Romero couldn't make the negotiations with Viloria. Now Mepranum is fighting Miranda? You're looking at the WBO's April 2010 rankings. Mepranum jumped from #9 to #1 and Miranda from #7 to #3 in their May rankings. I can understand Miranda moving up as he kept himself relevant with his win over Faustino Cupul but Mepranum hasn't fought since his win over Hernan Marquez in March. As a result of that win, he moved up from #11 in March to #9 in April. Why he would rise to #1 without the benefit of another victory is a mystery?
Jimenez, by the way, is now ranked #2.Comment
