Comments Thread For: Boxing Saviors: The Current Crop - 2010

By Thomas Gerbasi - The prospect - the most enticing of all fighters, and at the same time, the most unpredictable. Will the kid who looks great against journeymen in four rounders blossom into an all-time great, or at the very least, a world champion? Or will he fold the second he fights an opponent who fights back, or one who tags him on the chin? That’s the great unknown when it comes to this sport, and promotional and managerial careers are broken or made based on these picks.

And you can call the following folks prospects; I’ll just call them prospective saviors, because the ten fighters below represent young men who can not only fight, but that have the X factor when it comes to crossing over into a wider market, hence the savior tag. Because there will always be good fighters coming and going through the sport. Stars are a whole other story. [Click Here To Read More]

I've been to 4 of Fernando Guerrero's fights in Salisbury. He is the man there without question. He is definitely capable of being a big star.If I was his manager, I would be looking to get him a new trainer. He has flaws that could get him in trouble against big punchers with experience. He has very good power and enough speed to be a much more versitile fighter than what he has so far showed.I thought he got a home town decision over Ossie Duran. So if he's looking to fight Martinez, Pavlick,or Williams in the near future, he'll need to improve. But the sky is the limit for this guy.If he makes the right moves he could become a great world champion.

I am very surprised that Shawn Porter isn't on this list. He is an all around beast.

First post, long time lurker. Good article, I'm really pulling for Jacobs. I know a lot of people don't think he has it but I hope he steps it up this year.

I know he wasnt mentioned and I know it mite still be real early but Jose benavidez has just turned 18 last week and I think is 5-0 now . If he can stay with roach for a while I think he can make a good run, plus he's with top rank .he looks very poised for a 17 year old when I saw him.also vasquez jr is one that I look to be on the quick rise as well .

Deontay Wilder is definitely the best American heavyweight prospect.

They need to have him step up and fight some better journeymen now, I think he's ready for it.
