The problem is he's great at promoting himself and has many people fooled into thinking he's the man to beat. HBO gives him way too much attention. If he wasn't around we'd be seeing top ranked guys fighting other top ranked guys. Not someone who got ranked there with his mouth. Mosley was the first WW Floyd has fought since 2006. Save the 21 month layoff. Pathetic. The WW before Mosley was Carlos Baldomir. That's crap.
How did Mayweather STOP anyone else from making the fights they wanted?

Exactly bro. I don't know why people, who aren't fans of Mayweather, are worried about who he is and isn't fighting.

Because the fights they wanted were with him.

STFU *****. I'm a fan of the sport and Floyd is part of the sport. And as part of the sport he should give fans what they want.

floyd is smart. he comes from generations of boxers. You actually think that Floyd is ducking Pac and sitting at home scared of Pac? With the ego and skill that he has, no ****in way.

To be "fair"....Mayweather is arguably one of the most gifted and skilled boxer in our time (I think Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard...and Willie Pep in my book).

                    Technicians if you will.

But, what is questionable are WHO HE FOUGHT and the FREQUENCY OF HIS FIGHTS. In that light, obviously and that he claimed that he doesn't care for "legacy". It is too blatant that it is for commercial purpose.

In that light, I would rather see him retired.

Why? Because it is unfair for competitors to be in the loop mentally, physically and emotionally whereas he is just in to "cash in". It's not against the law that he stays and no one can stop him.

But this would surely ruin the sport in my honest opinion. And to be "fair" also, Pacquiao whom I admire likewise is doing the same things nowadays - CASHING IN before he retires.

But if anyone, at least Pacquiao isn't "ducking" anyone just yet, he is actively fighting and the frequency of his fights are there. He is only one man and he can't possibly fight them all at the same time. Nevertheless he is now (latter stage of his career...in his last two fights with Margarito and Clottey) which I would suspect as going COMMERCIAL.

But if Pacquiao fight Marquez, Berto, or winner of Bradley/Alexander and Martinez, then he wouldn't branded as much as Mayweather.

Obviously the Mayweather and Pacquiao HAS TO HAPPEN before they both retire and ride the sunset.

i've been saying for years that boxing is better off with mayweather out of the sport. it was better both times he retired and or took a extended vacation. match ups were made, no one was waiting around for a fight with floyd, they all fought each other, trying to fill in the number one spot, and look who did, manny pacquiao, and although he has had catch weight fights, they've been exciting, but that time is over, pacquiao needs to concentrate his efforts and fight with no catch weights and fight on even ground more.

but boxing is way better off without maywether, just look at this last months worth of fights, all have been good and exciting, boxing doesn't need these mega fights that floyd holds out for, it was something with DLH or now Pacquiao, but that is not really driving the sport, it's good match ups that the fans want to see is what fills the seats, pays for the tickets, and buys the PPV's.. obviously, mega fights have really attractive numbers, but with one or two a year, it's really not doing all that much.

bottome line, we get to see better match ups when floyd mayweather is out of the sport.
