EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: SHAWN PORTER

Boxing talk is here with junior middleweight prospect Shawn "Showtime" Porter, coming off of a 5th round ko. Can you give us some of thoughts on your performance? "I just tried to tranfer everything from the gym to the ring and it all worked out and came together. I dugged some good bodyshots in a floored him a few times with bodyshots and I eventually stopped him with a left hook to the body in the 5th round."
BT: Tell me a little bit about your opponent Robert Kliewer? Your Dad was telling me he was a tough guy and he didn't come to lay down.
SP: Oh he was a tough guy. He gave me a fight and he made me work. He blocked a lot of punches. He wa tough kid from Minnesota.
BT: He was a 6 footer right? You being 5'7" are you comfortable facing taller guys?
SP: Yes , it's no big deal to me. It takes them more time to get adjusted to me , than it does for me to get adjusted to them. Just about everybody I ever faced have been taller than me. If you throw them in front of me I am going to take them out.
BT: Your Dad and I talked about your weight in the past. Are you going to stop at 154 or keep going down to 147?
SP: It's official I am going down to 147. I am actually going to go to my S&C coach to check my strength levels to see where I am at. I'm not sure how long it's going to take to make the jump to 147 but, I am definitely going down there.
BT: Your Dad also told me you didn't take off one day of training from your last fight to this fight?
SP: No I didn't. It's tough but it's the business that I am in. At the end of the day it's all worth it.
BT: So when I get calls and emails about you, I can officially put your name in the mix at 147?
SP: Please do, we are excited about it. It's a stacked weight class and I'm glad to be there.
BT: Your 15-0 right now and you've had a busy schedule. Realistically when do you think you will be ready to step up to top contenders or maybe a title shot?
SP: Well I just leave that up to my manangement. My Dad sees the progression and he knows when I will be ready.
BT: OK, I want to thank you for the interview. You are very accessible and I appreciate that. Some guys only want to be bothered unless they are calling somebody out or they want to promote a fight.
SP: No problem, it's my pleasure, I feel obligated.
