Ali relied on his reflexes during his peak.Look at him in the 1960's compared to the 70's vesion.

Mayweather's defense is alot more textbook than Whitaker, who also relied on great reflexes.

I think what you're missing is "why" they say he's a pure boxer

Its when a man can do "Everything" in the ring.

Name me one thing Floyd can't do in the ring or you haven't seen him do, I'll wait.
And keep it real with yourself.

      Floyd is boxing

you're describing floyd as being versatile.
but yes he is considered a pure boxer.
read the quote and click where the thread originates, it will give more
info about pure boxers e.g. ivan calderon

Whereas a boxer with Solid fundementals like Hopkins can go on fighting even without the fitness of his youth.

floyd generally doesnt move about the ring as much as he used to but the guy is on 35 year old legs at this stage

in his youth he used his feet more. he would pick a spot, throw a punch or two, and then either hold or take a few steps to the side.

not acting like your typical boxer doesnt mean he's not one

linares, calderon, pre layoff ali, pep, moreno, whitaker these are some guys usually associated with movement and look more like the prototypical boxer might.

why take five steps when you can take three?
why throw 40 jabs a round if you arent trying to break a man down and stop him, and 10 jabs will be enough to win you the round?
why move around the ring excessively when you've landed enough clean counterpunches on your opponent to make him step off the gas?

why do more than you need to do to win these rounds?

i just wish he fought 15 rounds.

pacquiao and floyd should go 15 rounds.
          happy as a clam

Definitely has the talent to be one if he chose to..... But IMO I think of him as an unorthodox counter puncher....
