    Amateur To Watch: Lenroy Thompson

Went to the Regionals tournament last Saturday in Tulsa and got to see some of the guys that were going to the Nationals up close. The guy that impressed me the most was 21 year-old super-heavyweight Lenroy Thompson from New York, fighting out of Missouri. He was the winner of the 2008 and 2008 Golden Gloves.

He was facing a hometown kid that brought a good crowd, and it was interesting to see how Thompson did against an opponent with such a big size/height advantage. He did really well; Stuck to his gameplan, used his head and body movement, picked his shots nicely. His opponent did well in the first round but got excited and started loading up every shot, and Thompson made him pay for it. Clean punching, good combinations, and especially good use of distance. He moved in and out really well and slipped a lot of shots.

Really interested to see where this kid ends up in the next few years.

(Note: I didnt take the following videos. Props to FPAmateurBoxing for uploading)
