Is boxing the most physically demanding sport in the world??

I can't think of a sport that matches the physical demands of boxing, going 12 rounds with only 1minutes rest in between.
It's not like a team sport where you can relax and rely on a team member, or even another solo sport where you can take a (physical and mental) breather as you know by doing so you could get seriously hurt..
MMA maybe close but as there is take downs much less rounds it stops the chances of a 12 round warrior type fight.
Peak for peak I can't think of another athlete that would be as fit and in such a physical shape as the likes of pacquiao and mayweather..

    Your thoughts?

certainly the most punishing. Theres no other sport where the main target is the head(most of the time), and your opponent is trying to beat it in to win.

MMA doesnt go as long and theyre arent constantly getting hit compared to boxing. There are periods when they are on teh ground wrestling. Football may be worse with the 35mph hits.

It's definitely up there.. But it all depends on what you define as the most physical demanding, as to some people running can be harder than swimming etc.. I'd say it comes down to the individual differences.

I was about to say that as well. The Tour De France is arguably the toughest and most demanding event.

I think its more demanding and harder than team sports... cause with team sports you play every week and if you play crap or have an off day one week its fine you can make up for it, or if you have an offday or whatever you can slack off a little cause you've got your team mates to help pull you along... you can't really do that in Boxing cause its just you and him, so if your being lazy its on you.

Well yeah fair enough, but with Cycling your mainly using one set of muscles and thats the ones in your legs... I am not saying that makes it easy cause it aint, some of these guys train like animals and if you look at there thighs you can see that they train hard. But the difference between Cycling and Boxing is that in Boxing your using every muscle when in Cycling your mainly just using one set of muscles. I could be wrong though, I don't cycle much.
