    Castillo-Casamayor Not So Controversial

At least not as far as I'm concered. I had it even up going into the ninth, which Castillo shaded. He won the next round more clearly, and dominated the eleventh. Finally, I thought he had a clear edge in the balls to the wall twelfth. At the end of twelve rounds I had it 116-112, and I can see how a round or two could have gone to Casamayor which, obviously, would have made the fight closer. What I cannot see is how Casamayor could possibly have lost nine rounds, as one judge had it. Just like Bernstein said, it's not so much that Castillo didn't deserve to win as it is that there was such a huge difference between the scorecards, indicating a system which is not uniform enough or judges who are incomptent, which made the fight controversial.

I had it 6-5-1 for Casamayor I believe. It was a close fight. I can see how it was scored for closely scored for either guy but that judge with the larger disparity should be deep sixed. What was his card like 117-111 or something? Thats rediculous. I just think Casamayor looked like he could do what he wanted, when he wanted early on...it wasn't quite what I expected but it was good enough.

There was no controversy though I thought Casamayor won 115-114 but I agree 117-111 is ridiculous.

I disagree. There was definitely some controversy. I think the majority of the fans thought that Castillo won, and most of the media were content to let well enough alone. There were, though, a good number saying it was a bad call, such as Mike Sloan form **********.com, who wrote an article headlined, "Castillo Narrowly Escapes Defeat but is Marred in Controversy". Judging from the headline, which I think should have read, "Mired in Controversy", since "Marred" doesn't make as much sense, Sloan is clearly not a heavy journalistic hitter. But we only hear from the biggest guns in the business once a month, when the magazines come out, and we all rely on these websites to provide our boxing news. When a journalist on a pretty widely respected website says a fight is controversial, it confuses a lot of people.

I think most people including the media agree that 115-113 either way or a draw is pretty much acceptable. To me anything over that either way is too much for a close fight. To me the first 3 rounds went to Casamayor and the last three rounds went to Castillo. The middle rounds were pretty much split. I had the middle rounds 3-2 with one even.
