You can win a vacant lineal title under special circumstances with a #1 and #3 box off. Vitaly and Wlad being brothers and not wanting to fight each other cuz of that. Falls into that special circumstance.

Calling #1 vs #3 lineal is just as frocking ridiculous as considering the WBC belt lineal, like I said before, its not an exact science.


-Rahman ranked #2, was scheduled to fight the champion Vitali Klitschko, and Vitali pulled out.

-When Vitali retired, Rahman was the last active former lineal champion

-The Wbc belt Rahman fougt for in 2005 was the same one vacated by Lennox in 2003.


Because of these 3 instances you can make a strong case for Rahman being Lineal in 2005. If you do not accept this, then we are still in a vacant period until #1 fights #2. You dont change a 150 year rule just because two ***gy brothers refuse to fight each other.

So having the #3 guy in the division (Rahman) fight a lower ranked ranked opponent for an "interim" lineal title is less ridiculous to you than having the #1 guy in the division (Wlad) fighting the highest ranked contender who isn't his brother (Chagaev) for the vacant lineal title?

Regardless of the pros and cons, If Ali won the crown for the 3rd time, over Spinks, how was it that the title became vacant between the two above dates, (according to the list), and was only won when Holmes beat the previous champion, Ali.

It seems as if there may be confusion between the term "Lineal Champion", and "Unified, (or Recognised) Champion", not nccessarily the same thing.

Soir Lineal is the term given by the fans and boxing organizations to a champion. Honestly, you have to credit Wlad with that accolade - what do you expect him to do? reanimate Joe Louis from the grave and fight him?

Lots of ppl dont understand lineal title, its the title that is won against "THE MAN" at that weight division...

And you obviously don't understand that when "THE MAN" with the lineal title retires, the #1 and #2 ranked fighters (and sometimes the #1 and #3) then fight for that vacated title.
