Wladimir had a great chance to be lineal but he did not pursue Maskaev and chose to fight green Brock instead.
WTF are you talking about? That is not the way it works. Maskaev was never the lineal champion. And, Rahman won it when he KO'd Lewis and lost it in the rematch. Since then he has never won the lineal HW title.

Rahman won Vitalis vacated WBC belt in 2005. Rahman was scheduled to fight Vitali, but Vitali backed out. Its not an exact science but this much is clear:

        You either except:

        1. Vitali is Champion
        2. Lennox is still Champion
        3. Vacant until #1 and #2 square off.

Who gives a fuck about the WBC belt? WBC belt is not the lineal belt man. WTF are you talking about?

There is nothing to except, Lennox retired that left the title vacant until Wlad beat Chagaev for the lineal HW title.

Which makes Wlad the lineal HW champion right now.

Remember fellas, you can gain the title and not get the lineage that comes with the belt ie. winning the title when it is vacant. You get the lineage when you either a) Beat the man who last had the title (Larry Holmes vs. Ali) or beat the man that holds the (empty) belt ie. Stanley Ketchel vs. Marvin Hart. Marvin Hart was never really considered the lineal champ as he didn't beat anyone(Jeffries) for the belt, he won the vacant title. Tommy became lineal champ as he beat Marvin for the belt, so thus lineage was re-established from that bout. Damn good thread though.

Right now, i think the brothers would have to beat each other to become lineal champion.

lineal titles are a bit of a flawed concept. Everyone seems to have a their own idea of what happens when a lineal champion moves on without being defeated. Although on here I guess they just get called a ducker and a *****

For what it's worth I don't consider Wlad a lineal champion, but he is clearly number 1 in the division so it really doesn't matter. Most people consider Haye the last lineal champ at cruiser which I tend to agree with, but even that is debatable in my book.

The important thing is, they were/are recognised as unified champs and the number 1 in their respective divisions at the time.

You can win a vacant lineal title under special circumstances with a #1 and #3 box off. Vitaly and Wlad being brothers and not wanting to fight each other cuz of that. Falls into that special circumstance.

Wlad vs Chagaev = For the vacant lineal title.

That is not even debatable. Adamek and Cunningham fought for the vacant lineal CW belt. Both were rated 1 and 2 at the time.

Calling #1 vs #3 lineal is just as frocking ridiculous as considering the WBC belt lineal, like I said before, its not an exact science.

-Rahman ranked #2, was scheduled to fight the champion Vitali Klitschko, and Vitali pulled out.

-When Vitali retired, Rahman was the last active former lineal champion

-The Wbc belt Rahman fougt for in 2005 was the same one vacated by Lennox in 2003.

Because of these 3 instances you can make a strong case for Rahman being Lineal in 2005. If you do not accept this, then we are still in a vacant period until #1 fights #2. You dont change a 150 year rule just because two ***gy brothers refuse to fight each other.
