Is Mares finally going to prove himself?

Guy has gone softy his whole career. This is his first real challenge and will prove if he is a contender or a pretender. A loss tonight proves he will never be great, while a win will silence the critics but force him to fight top fighters. I think the kid is going to lose tonight.

Perez should pwn him. Mares has skills but he seems soft to me.

150k on Perez if anyone wants it.

        In the bold,

How the hell you draw up that conclusion? You just said this was his first real challenge.

Anyway I'm really looking foward to tonight

I won't be one of them. I thought the kid was gonna be the truth a few years ago but then they kept feeding him soft competition. Then he got to age 22 and 23, and still didn't step up and a red flag went off, maybe he really isn't that good. Tonight will be a good barometer. Big props if he gets the W but he better not step it down if he wins. He needs to be fighting good fighters.

tough fight for mares i havent seen too many of his fights but if he has been fighting soft opposition this may be too big of a jump up for him in terms of class of opponents.

I think everybody is expecting this fight to be a war. I don't see it like that. I see Mares picking his shots and maybe outboxing Perez. It's easy to throw a bunch of punches against a target that's constantly in front of you, which Agbeko is. Another thing about Agbeko, is that he has a horrible left hook. If I remember right Perez swings kind of wide with it too. I think the boxing skills of Mares will suprise a lot of people. Glad he got his talent from Nacho and then dumped him or else his career wouldn't have went anywhere with his type of management.

Cause he's 24 now and never stepped up and that is a huge red flag. I think his team kept him in with weak opposition because he really isn't all that he is cracked up to be. A loss against a good fighter would really just be more telling. Hate to say a fighters fight world title shot is make or break but in Mares case I think it is.

I think part of that has to do w/ the fact that he had a detached retina and needed time to heal... Either way, that won't exactly help him out against Perez who will be on his ass from round 1.

Like I said. Nacho Beristain. And Mares is familiar with Perez's style because they fought three times as amateurs. Mares won two out of three. A lot of people forget that he beat Juan Ma Lopez too. If you want to talk about a guy that hasn't proven anything, look at Saul Alvarez. And even Angulo up to an extent.
