    Matthew Saad Muhammad

Can someone tell me about this guy??

I heard about him but know nothing about him..

jabsRstiff mentioned him as a warrior and seemed to really like him, I was lookin through his record right now and saw he had 16 losses and lots of losses to lesser fighters....

What is it about him thats so special?

He was essentially a light heavy weight version of Arturo Gatti.

He got the nickname Miricle Matthew because of all the great combacks he made.

Check out his fights against Yaqui Lopez & Marvin Johnson.

      That's cool...

He sounds very underrated to me...

      Is that the case?

Saad Muhammad was a LHW champ and was probably the greatest prize fighter that division has ever seen. He was never really in a bad fight and made incredible comebacks when you thought he was out of the fight.

His fights with Yaqui Lopez, Dwight Qawi, and Marvin Johnson were all great fights.

He may be the most exciting fighter that boxing has ever seen because he fought on a world class level.

          Underrated? I dunno. Not really

He was a world champion and made a number of defenses. And while he is a HOFer. It's not so much based on his record. But more on the highlights he provided. Much like Gatti.

He was allot of fun to watch. Plenty of action & he took allot of punishment and pulled out victories.

ThaGreatest--The only reason Muhammad had so many losses is that he fought on LONG after his prime. And the degree to which he slipped after losing to Qawi was far greater than the average washed-up fighter.

With Muhammad, you were always sure that "this fight is gonna be the one to finish him". Somehow, the guy kept defying the odds until he met Qawi.

A lot like Gatti in many respects.

                Matt is not dead.

I love Saad, one of my all-time faves...BUT, he isn't the best light heavyweight ever.

Charles, Foster, Moore, Spinks.....they were the best.

Saad was the most exciting lt. heavy ever....& my choice as the most exciting fighter ever, lb4lb.
Most of those losses came after he was shot....& with his style, he was kinda shot even while holding the belt. There are only so many grueling fights one can be in...
His title-winnig fight against Marvin Johnson, & his title defense against Yaqui Lopez are two of the memorable fights in history. But, did you all know these fights were rematches ? Rematches to fights that were every bit as, if not more, brutal than their sequels.
