Can Yuri Foreman Outslick Miguel Cotto? (betting odds)

Can Yuri Foreman Outslick Miguel Cotto? The June 5th Yuri Foreman vs Miguel Cotto fight at Yankee Stadium is gaining momentum our fight picks staff decided to look at the all to important defense factor. Yuri Foreman’s main claim to fame has been his smooth boxing skills but is his defensive acumen better than Miguel Cotto? If Yuri can’t outfox and outslick the heavy handed Puerto Rican he could be in trouble. Below is a closer look at both these welterweights defensive skills from our fight picks team of experts.

The Yuri Foreman vs. Miguel Cotto Boxing Odds have Cotto as a -220 boxing betting favorite at SBGGLOBAL.COM

Fight Picks Analysis: Miguel Cotto is an aggressive power-puncher that likes to apply pressure and **** the body which leaves him susceptible to counterpunches. Miguel does move his head well in a Mike Tyson-esque manner when he is slugging. Cotto is adaptable and can turn into a slick boxer when the occasion calls for it. Cotto can turn southpaw and box intelligently with decent footwork. Cotto keeps his chin tucked religiously and has sound hand placement which makes him a difficult target to tag cleanly. Cotto’s heavy left jab also is a tool that he keeps opponents at bay with as a defensive tool.

Yuri Foreman is a clever mover that likes to box from the outside. Foreman has mastered the art of distance with his pesky jab and keen sense of timing. Yuri is quick on his feet and his side-to-side movement is among the best in the business. Foreman does an excellent job pivoting at the right moments and counterpunching when opportunities present themselves. Foreman is not knittable however with ordinary head movement and occasional lapses with his hand placement. The Yuri Foreman vs. Miguel Cotto Boxing Odds have Foreman as a +180 favorite.

Both of these guys are good defensive fighters but Foreman is a touch better. Cotto’s style leaves him more vulnerable and Foreman rarely stays in the same spot for very long and never gives up his height. Cotto has a tendency to lunge in at times. The Yuri Foreman vs. Miguel Cotto Boxing Odds give Cotto a 68% chance of winning on the boxing betting money line.

    He really doesn't have to.

In my opinion, he should keep the pressure high and push pace heavily. Cotto will burn out in the later half, then he can do whatever he wants. Box, brawl, swarm... whatever he wants.

I really, really feel like Cotto lost something after the Margarito loss that he just isn't going to get back. His confidence is just plain gone.

Good luck to him, but I'm thinking Foreman takes this.

Because of Cotto style, I think he'll always have problems with taller fighter w/ size and Foreman moves around a lot. Unless Stewart has a major effect, Foreman will outbox him.
