Puerto Rican featherweight Juan Manuel Lopez recently received criticism for what seems to be the avoidance of lacing his gloves up against Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa and Panamanian Celestino Caballero.
But before Lopez (28-0, 25 KOs, Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico) can silence his critics and the mouth of Caballero, which has smeared the young star anyway possible, he must first get past tough Filipino Bernabe Concepcion (28-3, 15 KOs, Virac, Philippines) on July 10, 2010.
During a press conference to announce the bout in San Juan, Puerto Rico today, Concepcion, known as a knock-out puncher, stated that the key to victory would be, "improvements with stamina and speed and movement."
When asked about the reality of fighting in front of hostile crowd at Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot, Concepcion remained unwaivered calmly replied, "I feel comfortable fighting here."
As for Lopez, looking a little soft and possibly overweight, he praised his opponents strengths.
"He is a great fight," stated Lopez. "He is big and strong and difficult. You got to fight him intelligently, round by round, and come into the ring in the best shape possible."
The action will be carried in the United States via Showtime.
