If he were in his mid 30's or something I would agree, but he's young enough to where it's ok to be at where he's at.

Even if he never lands Pac or Floyd, he still can chase mosley and lets not forget there is so much talent at 140 that some of those guys will inevitably go up to 147. Like Khan or Bradley and by that time, they could very well be big stars.
Wassup Nata....was wondering if you'd find this thread....

I see what your sayin bro....but here's a couple of things:

    1) Berto suffered a torn bicep against Quintana (I applaud that he endured + got the stoppage = great heart), I hope that he fully recovers from that injury....

    2) It might not be relevant...but remember that Berto gave a lackluster performance against Urango @ 147lbs....Alexander smashed Urango to pieces at 140lbs....I don't know where Urango's optimum weight is...but Alexander definately performed the way Berto SHOULD HAVE against Urango.

    3) Chasing Mosley NOW would not benefit Berto...according to many of the so called "experts"...Mosley showed every bit his age of 38 against Floyd (I beg to differ)....so a fight with Mosley might not garner so much money and attention.....

    4) To my knowledge...never been in a PPV that I can recall...Mosley was to be his 1st right???

IDK, its still an ok win because he is still not viewed as really an elite guy yet and if he were to some how stop Mosley its a big notch on his belt.

He is in no mans land because he wants Floyd and both are managed by Haymon so that rules that out as well as a PWILL fight
we know that Mosley is prob gonna retire and Packy wouldnt take a risk against a fast hard puncher like Berto
        he is azed out

I remember that. I'm not sure how bad it is and if he's heeled or what. If he is, it shouldn't be a problem. If he isn't yet, he should take a tune up or a lesser opponent.

          2) It might not be relevant...but remember that Berto gave a lackluster performance against Urango @ 147lbs....Alexander smashed Urango to pieces at 140lbs....I don't know where Urango's optimum weight is...but Alexander definately performed the way Berto SHOULD HAVE against Urango.
yeah his fight with Urango was lackluster but I think there are a couple things about that:

a). It was his first fight after Luis Collazo which was a war and he'd been rocked a couple times in the fight. I think it may have been one of those things where he just wanted to play it safe and win.

b). This is related to a. but he had a completely different style to fight Urango than Alexander did and Berto fought that way the entire fight. So you can look at it a couple different ways - either he didn't destroy him like he should have/could have or he had a gameplan and stuck to it to the end despite not being crowd pleasing.

          3) Chasing Mosley NOW would not benefit Berto...according to many of the so called "experts"...Mosley showed every bit his age of 38 against Floyd (I beg to differ)....so a fight with Mosley might not garner so much money and attention.....
I disagree a little bit because Berto needs that big name on his resume, even if shane is viewed as old and past his best days, beating him still gives him more publicity than anyone else in the division availible and it's also a nice payday. I think he were to dominate shane too (which is unlikely) it would really make a statement.

          4) To my knowledge...never been in a PPV that I can recall...Mosley was to be his 1st right???
I think Mosley vs Oscar II was PPV.

But to be honest there are only a handful of guys in boxing that are PPV attractions - floyd, pacquiao and a couple others, that's really it. Any Berto fight will be on HBO.

            Forgot about that issue.....

I wouldn't say Packy wouldn't take a risk against a fast hard puncher (Cotto?)...but with the way "politics" are today....Berto wouldn't bring enough to the table to warrant Pacquiao fighting him....as much as I would love to see Pacquiao get down with a young lion like Berto...I just don't see it happening.

I'm sure the Al Haymon mgmt would play a role as well....

              a) Before I speak on Collazo...I've always felt that he was a great "gatekeeper" to the Elite's of the division....that being said...if his fight with Collazo is considered a "war"...then i'm either highly underrating Collazo...or Berto will become a "gatekeeper" himself.....

              b) Since you brought the "styles" card up...I see what your saying....Berto probably thought that Urango would try to bully him on the inside and rough him up.....Urango is built like a colombian tank....Alexander took the other route and decided to use his speed...

So a win against Mosley would do for Berto what Manny's win against DLH did for him?

I still don't see Berto beating Mosley......

Yeah, I mean again there a number of ways you can look at that fight. One, it was a learning experience for Berto. Everyone needs to be in a tough fight and be tested as their going up the ranks and that was his big test, a fight to dig deep and know he can survive and fight strong in the end. Or you can look at it the other way and say Berto sucks. lol.

I like berto, I think he's skilled and talented, I don't think he's anywhere near the level of pac or floyd, but he's a talented guy. Prob not going to make it into the hall of fame when it's all said and done, but he's a good champ for now and he still has more potential I think.

So a win against Mosley would do for Berto what Manny's win against DLH did for him?
Haha, exactly but to a much lesser extent.

I still don't see Berto beating Mosley......
It would be a good fight that's for sure. I think Berto has a real good shot at beating mosley just based on his style, speed and his youth. However if Berto gets caught by that right hand that nearly sent floyd down, berto's going to sleep!

For sure....Mosley / Berto would be a good fight....Mosley "aura" of "destroying Margarito" is gone now...and definately will even the betting odds between him and Berto....but I honestly wouldn't pay PPV price for that fight...anymore.

And that right hand that caught Floyd....I think even Manny would've went down....
