Paul Williams and Amir Khan: On a Collision Course?

This may or may not be a plausible prospect, but is definitely thought provoking. Think about it. Both fighters are young and exciting, posing similar styles. This fight wouldn't be a public demand for another two or three years, but let's start entertaining it now, shall we?

Paul Williams is coming off a very bizarre fight with Kermit Cintron. The fight ended when Cintron fell out of the ring and was deemed unfit to continue. Cintron is filing to overturn the technical decision to a no-contest, which in the eyes of many is the only reasonable thing to do. A rematch will probably be in demand and take place in the coming months. Williams, who was in control of the fight, should beat Cintron pretty handily if he can stay focused.

Williams has defeated Margarito, avenged a loss from Quintana, and failed to get Kelly Pavlik in the ring. Williams has called out Floyd "Money" Mayweather, and Manny Pacquiao. Carrying the moniker of "Most Avoided Fighter," Williams is not likely to demand a high profile fight at this time.

Defeating Cintron in a rematch and maybe a rematch with Sergio Martinez is probably his future. On that schedule, 2010 and half of 2011 is filled up for Williams.

Amir Khan is coming off a convincing win over Paulie Malignaggi. Following in the footsteps of his predecessors Naseem Hamed and Herbie Hide as the youngest British bred boxer, the future is ripe with big pay day fights for Mr. Khan.

A bout with Manny Pacquiao is likely out of the question considering Freddie Roach trains them both. Khan can cement his legacy by cleaning up the 140 pound division and facing the likes of Timothy Bradley, Victor Ortiz, and Devon Alexander.

However, the welterweight division is calling his name and these fights might be on the back-burner.

Enter Paul Williams vs. Amir Khan at 147 pounds. Khan and Williams could easily make the weight, and the showdown would create a significant enough buzz to under-card a PPV card.

The fight would feature two young fighters representing the future of boxing today.

    Who would be victorious?

It's a toss up at this point, but Khan is definitely the bigger puncher. The question is not will this fight happen, but when.

    Who's down?

    I know I am.

Amir Khan is a light welterweight. Paul Williams is basicly a middleweight.

Amir has the frame of a much bigger fighter though. He's only 23. Give him a couple years and he'll fill out.

Paul is sloppy and will get hit, but I believe he is just too big.

I dunno.. believe it or not.. i think i'd give Khan a bigger chance to win than Williams.. for the fact that i think Khan will be comfertable at 147 in the next year or so... I still dont believe Pwill can get down to 147.. if he does i know if will take a toll on him to try to make it.. look what happened when Pac brought DLH down that far...
