Why is a big HW Shannon Briggs fighting two cruiserweights who've been getting KOed?

Shannon Briggs is scheduled to fight

    1. Rob Calloway, a cruiserweight who has been stopped in THREE of his past FOUR fights

    2. Dominique Alexander, a cruiserweight who has been knocked out in FIVE of his past EIGHT fights.

Why isn't a big man like Shannon instead fighting some heavyweights who have been getting KOed a lot?

    How old is he now?

Before his last fight when was the last time he fought?

TBH, I'd prefer this over going the way of Holyfield, who is fighting semi decent Heavyweights and taking more punishment when he should have retired years ago.

It's because he's near the end of his career and isnt ranked anymore. If he wants to make some more money and then retire I dont have a problem with that. If he was a recognised champion and fighting bums then it would be strange but he isnt so stop hating.

The real question should be why do you hate every american fighter?

I'm English but I would like to know...

Who cares? Briggs is old, not ranked, and irrelevant.

Better question, why do you still care about Shannon Briggs?

I guess Tunney wants Briggs to get beat up...or fight a Klitschko perhaps...

Shannon Briggs has been bragging a lot about the Klitschkos ducking him. If he really wants a title shot, shouldn't he fight other HWs?

I don't hate Alexander, Mosley, Jones, etc.

I just don't like loud-mouthed braggarts who show no respect for anyone else in the sport, yet don't follow through on what they say.

Some boxing writers at The Ring and other sites have said "the HW division sucks because Shannon Briggs is still a factor"...

How is he a factor if he won't fight another HW? How is the division so bad if he avoids all of them?

Incredibly, he IS ranked by the WBA as their #13 HW.

Holyfield also wants a shot at the Klitschko's.

Neither Briggs nor Holyfield need to take anymore punishment, they've both done well in their careers. Briggs is over 40 ( i think) has ben KO'd by Lewis and been through a fair amount of tough fights in his career. He's has asthma problems throughout him career which has meant he can't fight well over the distance and it's just going to get worse as he gets older and he has a decent Beard so and fight that isn't against a monster puncher will just prolong punishment.

He shouldn't be fighting but if he does continue its better that he fights against stiffs than contenders.
