I like a certain boxer because of: #1. skills; 2) wits inside & outside the ring; 3) courage & determination. Could be just only one, if a certain fighter has one of the three, i will surely root for him regardless of race & religion.
comon its in the nature of sport to root for your own.
why root for your country in a soccor, rugby world cup etc.
I guess and dont take this the wrong way, as america plays team sports that only America plays (the the **** you get away with calling it world series baseball when only you guys play is beyond me) or the US footie, which effiectively you guys only play to that standard then maybe its a little alien to you.
mnot im not ciriticinsg here just making an observation.
being brought up on soccor rugby and cricket in britain you always root for your own.
however most people appreciate sports skills irrespective of race, the french world cup winning football side for example were class, the aussie cricket team class, NZ /AUSSIE RUGBY TEAMS BUT WOULD YOU HEAR ME SHOUTING FOR THEM OVER ENGLAND NOT ON YOUR LIFE.
so could be a cultural thing with sports, boxing is a bit different as a solo sport, but the brits tend to back the brits where they can for the reasons I believe captured above.
Because they are the same race, Like I kno puerto Ricans like Cotto, & Trinidad, Mexicans Like Chavez , Morales ect.....People from England worship Lennox lewis and Joe Cal***gie...What happen To Being a fan because the fighter is good..Like Im not Ray Leonards biggest fan because i grew up where he did or went to the same high school he did... I just wanna kno why people like fighters for these reasons....Race & Location?
This is a great thread. Good karma for you. I agree with everything you said. Most people like to pull for their country man or race etc. I personally not one of these people. I don't care about the race or country a boxer is from. Maybe it's because I come from 2 different races. Also I have no problem if a person pulls for their country man. What makes an homer is this. Let's say if a Mexican person is a fan of Mayweather, but when Mayweather fights a Mexican then he's against Mayweather, that's what makes you an homer.
