Come on dude, whether your black or not, dont sit here and try to say that the African American Style has not long been associated with Pure boxing. Its the style most closely associated with it in history.

and as with 99% of the replies here, you call RJJ a pure boxer?
In the original Post, Tyson is mentioned as an anomaly, go back and read it.

Replace pure boxer with virtuoso fighter and I'll roll with you as that seems to be what your describing. TS. All of the fighters you said were very skilled and had personable styles but to say they are all pure boxers is inaccurate to me.

Maybe African American's of yesteryear but fighters like Ali, Tyson, RJJ, especially RJJ, were far from pure boxer's. Thats what got them to be marquee names so quickly in their careers.

And, just cuz you African American does not make you a pure boxer by the way.

Example Robinson was not a pure boxer "for the most part" like you mentioned.

Roy was not a pure boxer.

                    Willie Pep pure boxer

                    Benny Leonard pure boxer

Henry Armstrong not a pure boxer

                    Floyd Mayweather Jr pure boxer.

                    Ivan Calderon pure boxer

                    Ali not a pure boxer.

I haven't studied Calderon to the extent needed to discuss his style and who said Barrera was a pure boxer....isn't the Mexican style of fighting well defined as not being pure boxing?
