And don't forget, there were a few others , like the welterweight Micky Walker, who could fight at any weight from middle to heavy-and back, as well as Greb, who was noted for his heavyweight chin Dave Sands, the Australian, was the Australian middle, light-heavy and heavyweight champ more or less at the same time, and neccessarily, took some heavyweight punches.

Still, Hagler is respectable even in their company because he successfully took punches from middleweights who were noted for their heavyweight quality power..

i heard of grimm.

From what I understood, Grimm was like an attraction and not a serious fighter.

But he could take a mean punch, with only ten or so wins in an estimated 300 bouts.

Unfortunately, I read that he spent his final days in a mental institution.....

Maybe a lot of people say that, and, yes, he had/has a very good chin, but the BEST chin of all time belonged to Joe Grim, of whom, most of you have never heard.

Grim was a very unusual character, originally I seem to recall from Italy around the early the 20th cent. He wasn't much of a fighter, but usually put up a good showing and in actual fact fought EVERYBODY, including champions, from lightweight to heavyweight. he'd often be KD as many as a dozen times in a fight and won very few. Although nearly always much outweighed. he was only rarely KO'd.

He even fought Jack Johnson, Sam McVey and other top heavyweights, and had no fear.

Around that same time were several other "characters" in boxing, one of whom was Young Griffo, from Australia. He drank like a fish was brilliantly clever defensively, also had hundreds of fights and, being a featherweight fought everybody up to I think, Welter or middleweight. Was only KO'd a couple or three times. I used to read a story about him every so often in the Ring.

One of his tricks was when drunk, or when he WANTED to get drunk, would be to stand on a handkerchief, in front of a fighter, ANY fighter, and bet -for drinks_ that he couldn't be hit above the waist within a certain time.

Because of his skills, he was drunk most of the time, even when boxing. And I mean in the middle of a fight...........

Maybe Tex Cobb, at least for most of his career. Eventually he got stopped in a round Dee Collier. I've never seen that fight, I heard he took it lightly, but maybe it was just a case of a guy with an iron chin that finally cracks after too much punishment.

Earlier he had soaked up bombs from Earnie Shavers of all people and they didn't even seem to bother him.
